understanding model heirarchy
« on: February 07, 2016, 07:22:04 AM »
I have been trying for quite some time to split a model to its main (all) pixels and to have a center part of the model with just some pixels of the same model.  I have a main star model and a center star model which is a subset of the main star model. The center star model purposely has some duplicate channels of the main star model.

Example: The main star model has 1000 pixels and center star model has 500 pixels which are in the center part of the main star model and are a subset of duplicated pixels of the main star model.

When I program an effect to the main star model the effects take effect on ALL pixels. As soon as I program an effect to the center star model I am unable AFTER that point to get effects to ALL pixels again . Somehow new programmed effects to the main star model after that point only effect pixels on the main star model MINUS the center star model.

What do I need to do in software to reestablish hierarchy for the main model so that for the rest of the song I can program to the main star model and have all pixels effected?  Not sure what to do.

I should mention that I am using the LAST version of 3.7? Not any version of 4.?? Because of the numerous changes of 4.??  I haven't wanted to update to version 4 until after the Vegas class. Perhaps hierarchy is easier in version 4? Not sure.

This is an advanced topic so if you have used duplicated channel numbers with subsets of models, let me know how you handled hierarchy and how you reestablished hierarchy so that the main model can reestablish precedence later in the song.

Thanks --Greg--

Hope to see all of you in Vegas in April.

I've done what you are asking, but honestly I wasn't able to get an internal picture of what you are wanting for your models (sorry I'm a visual person).

Any chance you could make a visual aid on what you are wanting? You might want to post your files as well.

The version should be irrelevant at this point.
