Presets
« on: November 17, 2015, 06:44:25 PM »
Question on this...I can do basic effects for presets, i.e. one effect, which is pointless since I can drop the effect by itself, but, just for reference to see if it worked....and they apply fine, but when I do layered presets...it appears they save, but won't apply a preset to the sequencer.

Let me know if i'm doing this wrong...but I have a layered effect...Highlight the duration of both effects, i.e. the basic diamond. I already have the group name in place. I click New Preset, name it, and it appears under the group. I click ok.     I go to the sequencer, highlight both layers that I wish to apply a preset to, highlight the effect under presets, and hit apply preset, nothing happens. I double click the effect, nothing happens....Thanks

Not sure what you mean by highlighting both layers.  You only need to click in one spot to define the starting point for the preset.  It's basically the same as a paste operation.  You can open your rgbeffects file and see if you see the presets being saved.

What I meant by that Gil was when I have created a layered effect, I highlight both effects when saving as a New Preset. When I get on the computer tonite...I'll look for the preset In the effects file...since I'm learning how to fish and all.
When I was trying to use the preset, I tried highlighting both layers , and also tried just the first layer. Neither seemed to work, so i'll go to the effects file and go from there.  I'm clearly not doing some part of this correctly, but seemed pretty straight forward in the manual.

The only thing that should block the preset paste is if an effect is in the way where you are trying to paste.  I tested it last night just to make sure we hadn't accidentally broken the feature.

When you have an effect preset you want to use just highlight the single cell on the top most layer and apply the effect.

Do not ask to know all the answers, but ask to understand the question.

I did figure this out, and it was my error.
On importing someone else's layered effects, those effects have to be saved into the xml_rgbeffects file i'm guessing.  My question/concern is, when you save it there, is there any issue with it messing up anything else within that file?   probably a stupid question, but when you open the file on notepad++, it looks like it could just end up saving it anywhere within that organized mess.

XML is kinda like nested paragraphs.  It doesn't matter where each paragraph exists just that it remains at the right nesting level.  A proper XML parser will search and find a section no matter which order its listed in the file.  So if you see <TAGNAME> that establishes a nesting level so everything between that and </TAGNAME> is underneath that level.
