Changing number of nodes in a model ?
« on: May 09, 2016, 05:03:45 PM »
Hello,

I setup my models so I can start sequencing for this year and learn the program. When I setup my models I got a close estimate to the number of nodes I will have, but now that I have my lights I see that Im 1 or 2 off per model. If I change my models to the correct number of nodes, will that mess up my sequences that I have finished ? I just wanted to ask before trying, or see how to go about this before I mess up anything. I have backups of everything. In my mind I see if I change garage by 2, those 2 nodes will now be part of another model, but in my sequence it will still be looking for those 2 nodes as part of my garage and throw and error or something. Just trying to make sure.

Thank you,

The changes will scale automatically assuming you didn't do specific node level stuff. Even effects that are based on x/y coordinates should do just fine.

Xlights is based on models, not channels, so there isn't any carryover. The boundary is the model.

Example, I added 4 whole mini trees. After I added these in my groups, 80% of my sequences scaled automatically.

Just change the models then re-render/save the sequences again.

Thanks for the quick responses. I keep multiple backups so wouldnt have hurt, but rather ask first. Thank you again

This is one of the great things about xlights.  No direct link between your xml sequence and the number of nodes.  That is why it is easy to copy a shared sequence.  One megatree can have 12 strands of 50 and another can have 16 strands of 60 and the sequence will convert right over.  I make it a practice to delete the fseq file before I re-render, but that is probably not needed these days.

This concept (dropping an effect on a model) has been true since
Nutcracker 2012
xLights 3 2013-2014
xLights 4 2015-present

It is one of the fundamental design concepts since the beginning.

we also do not care what type of controller you have. Renard, LOR, DMX, e1.31, artnet, pixelnet all will work with the same sequence xml file. Notice the sequencer xml has NO controller info in it. That info is in the xlights_networks.xml file.
