Updating of a 4.x sequence
« on: August 05, 2016, 07:44:54 AM »
If I open a sequence created in 4.x should I expect an all models group to be created as a result of this conversion to xL 2016 or do I have to do a manual creation of this group?

I don't think we create any groups.  Are you thinking an old whole house model would be converted?  I'm pretty sure it doesn't create a group.  To be honest I really don't know if the old WHM's are still supported or not.  They may work but I know you can't create a new one.

No the old sequence did not contain an whole house model. Just some model groups.

If you open the sequence and select one of the model groups then there is no way without creating a whole house group to get xL to show all models. Guess I'll have to go through all my Halloween sequences and add a 'Whole House' model group.

The models should have been set to the "Default" preview is they used to have "Is My Display" checked.  I wish someone would give me a set a files where that doesn't work.  If the conversion isn't doing that then you can always select "All Models" in the Preview dropdown and it will show all the models.  Then you gotta click each one and change it's Preview assignment to "Default".  Or just search/replace in the XML.  But the bottom line is no you never need a model group to see all your models.  If you do then that's a bug and again I'd like to have the file that cause it.

When I change to a show directory with the xlights_rgbeffects.xml file you sent me I see all the models by default.  Not sure what the problem is.

Yes you initially see all the models. Click on one of the Model groups and the only way to get back to all models is through the dropdown menu. Also as you click from Model group to Model group all the models flash up on the screen before showing the next group. Without adding in a 'Whole House' group it is the only way to get all the models to show back up.

No just click that group again...lol.  When you click on a group it filters the display to only show that group.  Click it again to uncheck the visibility eyeball.  If you have a shorter list of model groups you can also click below the list to restore the filter.

I did a visual comparison between a sequence I updated and ran for my July 4th show and the Halloween sequence I updated by opening in .42.

In the <modelGroups> there was a new label added selected="0".

In the old 'modelGroup' lines this was missing even after the 4.x sequence was opened in 2016.42.

Does the file update code process all the old lines and add in these updated xml labels?

The "selected" attribute was supposed to have already been in the file for the model groups.  You file was weird because all the model groups had that attribute except for 3.  It tries to detect whether you used to have any selected because that meant you were filtering.  If so then all the unchecked ones become Unassigned.  It's designed to show you exactly what it used to show you.

I am going through my Halloween xlights_rgbeffects.xml file and try to be sure that no xml labels are missing.

I did add an 'All Models' group and all is good.

Sometimes migrating a sequence forward is not always perfect.

Thanks
