I don't run my show with xLights. I do mix my LOR sequences with Nutracker RGB models, but the final step has been to convert to the Falcon Player (on a Raspberry Pi) and I run my sequences from there. I have never used the xLights scheduler, though many have and still do.
This will be my 9th season and I have used LOR from the start. For non-RGB lighting, I find it very easy. I used LOR Protocol for the first 5 years, then converted to 100% DMX for years 6 and 7, especially when I could use E1.31. In year 7, I introduced my first RGB Pixels, still doing it in LOR. Total of 270 pixels, so that added 810 channels to a show that had always been less than 200. Pixel programming was slow and tedious, and since I didn't use CCRs, the SuperStar software didn't help me at all.
Then I learned about the Falcon Player and at the same time, Matt Brown seriously upgraded Nutcracker into xLights. So I learned how to convert my old LOR LMS files to xLights, then added my Nutcracker RGB data to it. At that point, I could have just used the xLights scheduler. Instead, I went a final step and used the Falcon Player to run my show, freeing my programming PC for updates while the show ran from the Raspberry Pi.
Again, I know nothing about the xLights scheduler, but I would think you could just repeat your announcements in between your musical sequences. Someone else can answer that for sure.
