Newbie requests help setting up Pixlite 16 with xLights v46
« on: October 01, 2016, 12:56:59 AM »
This my first project involving addressable-LED control, so please be a little patient.

I have 6 x 5m WS2801 LED strips(160 LEDs) cut into 24 x 40LED strips.
They are arranged as a zigzag matrix of 24(Y axis), 40(X axis), with signal start at bottom left.

I am attempting to setup a sequence with xLights (v2016.49) and a PixLite 16 Controller (v3.6).

So far I have connected the controller to a PC with a direct (crossover) Ethernet cable.
Using the Advatek PixLite Configuration Assistant, I have successfully setup the network connection and tested the whole LED array (via the 'Test' tab options). Colours, as selected from the dialogue box, are shown accurately on the matrix panel.

The sequence I created in xLights displays ok on screen, but when I then select 'output to lights', nothing happens on the LEDs.

xLights is not having any effect on the LEDs. They are all off, and do not show any sign of activity.

I do not have a full understanding of 'universes', and how they relate to the LED strips.

I have included some screen captures of my setup.

Please help with possible options to try to fix the fault.
Is this hardware configuration problem or software?

Have you set up your advanced string configuration? I'm not sure if any changes in the advanced tab will override anything even if the Box isn't checked. Personally I set everything up with unicast with all static IPS that way I'm assured that everything is lining up properly.

I recommend driving the lights from the tools/test. If you are able to get any to come on, then you can see if you have a channel assignment problem.

Thank you for the responses to my posting.
Yes, I can display all the test options from the tool tab successfully.

Since the posting I have tried to access the LED strips at other output locations, with some erroneous activity displayed. In no way can it be construed as coherent, discernable display.
I do not know how to allow for a zig zag arrangement.

Do I allow the first row of 40 LEDs then enter a number to allow a 'double-back' arrangement?, then repeat this for all 24 rows?

In the screenshot that I showed you will see the zigzag setup for a mega tree with 3 strips of 56 pixels per output On the first twelve outputs. Use that as an example to set up your controller. You will find it in the control tab and open up Advanced options, after you set that up you will have to check the advance box to run the advanced setup

also you have the start channels the same for the matrix and the tree,
i would set the start universe and channel for each element to see if no crossover,
ie tree could be Uni 1 /ch 1
and matrix start  would be univ 15/ch1 to start

Many thanks to all who responded to my request for help, my problem is now resolved.
I didn't have correct number of channels configured in xLights (I had 320, not 510)

Closing this topic.
