Five point star physical light layout question
« on: September 19, 2016, 07:18:44 PM »
I assembled 12 Boscoyo medium minitrees this weekend.   When I tested one of them (should have done this on the first one...doh), I found that my star is not sweeping as expected when going across the whole house model, doing bars up/down/across this minitree/star...  etc.   THEN I looked at the model definition in xlights (ok another doh on my part...) and it looks like I should have start the wiring at the bottom/center pixel.   I started my wiring at the bottom/left pixel, which I think is causing my issues.   I figured it was time to ask the smart folks here on this forum!    Can anyone steer me in the correct direction here please??   Thanks VERY MUCH in advance.

Oh...   One more question while I'm at it...    if I set my strings as 2 strands/string, do I need to have an even number of strings on the minitree?   Or will the 2 strands/string just do "half" of the 5th string?   I would really like to keep the 5 strings of 10 if possible, because that is 180 degrees on the medium minitrees.   But willing to go to 6 strings of 10 if needed.   THANKS AGAIN

Well you can open up the program and try different string configs and then look at the node layout.  That's what I'd have to do to answer the question but then how will you ever learn to catch fish...lol.  Sounds like you already figured out your first question.

Thanks Gil.  I'll play around with some different node layouts and see how different setups work.   Will rewire the star tomorrow night to start at the bottom/center as defined in the model; trying to re-sequence "Do you wanna build a snowman" tonight...  I appreciate the help!!

You could always use the video mapper to make a custom model also--guess it depends on how long it takes to rewire the pixels.

Here is my Boscoyo med tree model.  I use a 360 prop for physical stability, but only use a 180 with the lights.  50 nodes in the tree and 10 in the star.  60 node string Start at the bottom left go up 10 , down 10, up 10, down 10, up 10 and then the remaining 10 go in the star.  The stars are modeled separately, then my 16 trees are grouped, the 16 stars are grouped, and the tree group and the star group are grouped.  YMMV.

You can do a custom model of the stars and not rewire anything as well, then copy it and assign the new starts, put them into a group.

Someday I will figure out the align option so I don't end up with a stack of them on top of each other and have to manually put them back every time.

Thanks so much for the replies!!!   I have the exact same setup as Jim with the exception that I have 20 pixels on the stars.   I will try Jim's setup.   Your help is very much appreciated!!!

20 pixels on the stars will be very bright. Most of us only used 10 for that reason.

I finally had a chance to mess with my minitrees this weekend.   I re-configured all the stars so the first pixel is the bottom/center pixel.  The effects are working perfectly now.   Took me about an hour to move the pixels around on my 12 trees...  Of course, the first one took like 15 minutes and I got faster & faster!

Thanks for all your replies.
