Another LOR setup question
« on: October 27, 2016, 10:04:48 PM »
Sorry for another question about LOR setups in xlights. I am trying to switch to xlights E 1.31 this year and I am having a lot of trouble with my set up. I have one LOR controller, unit id 1, that I use with 8 RGB floods.  I have 4 CCB controllers, with 100 RGB each.(unit Id's 2-5) and one old school 16 channel controller for misc. dumb lights. Last year I ran my show in LOR, it was fine. This year, I have added a 16 strand RGB mega tree, with 50 RGB per string. I would like to sequence and run my show through xlights this year, maybe next year migrate to a pi.
I have just found that LOR unit one uses channels 1-16, unit 2 uses 17-33 etc.
Does this mean that my CCB unit 2 needs to start at channel 17? What about unit 3? Do I need to change the unit ID on it so it starts at channel 167, so it does not conflict with unit 2? Totally confused.
I thought I could put the 24 channel floods and the 16 channel controller on universe 1, then maybe do 1 universe per CCB controller, due to the universe being limited to 512 channels. Or, does each universe start over at channel 1?
I've watched dozens of video tutorials and read tons of postings, but I think I'm even more lost.

Thanks for your help.

To run LOR controllers from the E1.31 universe data you are going to need to run through something that takes the E1.31 universe and outputs it to a serial port to get a DMX data stream.  The F16v2 have 4 serial outputs so it can be used or you need some other type of E1.31 bridge.  You can route any universe you want out the DMX serial port.  It will then be 512 channels of DMX data.  Devices on the DMX serial line have no idea which universe that data was pulled from they just know it's 512 channels of data.  So you configure the LOR unit ID's based on the channel offset you want it to use when picking off data within it's DMX data stream.  So yes LOR Unit 2 will grab channels 17-32 from that DMX data.

If you were using 166 channels you can't start the next LOR controller at 167.  You got to pick a Unit ID that gets you close.  Unit ID "0B" is channel 161 and Unit ID "0C" is channel 177 so you would use "0C" and then make sure the model for that element is defined as channel 177 in xLights for that universe.

But if a CCB has 100 RGB that's 300 channels so you won't be able to fit 2 of them in one 512 channel DMX stream.  So you can put the first one after the RGB floods but the others will need their own universe which makes it easy because all their Unit ID's will be 1.

If you have 8 RGB floods that's 24 channels so I'd think a CCB added on that same output would need to start at Unit ID 3 which begins at channel 33...the first one available after 24.

I've attached a document that shows you how to map the unit ID's.

Thank you for the reply.
I will try to do the set up based on your answers, and post my results.

OK, I think I  am making progress, but something still isn't right. I have changed all of my LOR controllers to unit ID 1. Each is on it's own universe. I can get the lights to play, but it seems like the colors are off. I think I have a channel out of order, but I have been over it and over it. The only thing I see, I have my CCB100D's mapped on there own universes, and I have assigned 300 channels to each. When I look at the start/end channels in the layout tab, it is showing an end channel 340 from the start. ( I thought it should be 300)  I mapped all of my models, based on the 300 channels. I don't understand where these other 40 channels are coming from. I have attached a screenshot of my layout tab. Iave drawn a box around my CCB100 controllers.

It doesn't look like you are defining the start channels correctly.  When you use the Universe/Channel method of defining the start channel it needs to be #2:1 if you want it to begin on Universe 2 / Channel 1.  It seems like you have your channel numbers continuing where the previous universe left off and that won't work.

That's correct, the start and end channels are consecutive.
When I created the universes in the setup tab, it didn't give me the option to set the start channel, it only asked how many channels I needed.
I assume the setup tab and the layout tab need to match, as far as channel setup is concerned.
I tried changing my universe 2 as you suggested to start at channel 1. When I tested the lights, I got no response.
I have attached a screenshot of my setup screen, I included an open dialogue box from the add E131.

I'm sure I'm missing something.

No you're confusing the absolute channels number in xLights with the channel number within the universe.  If you have a model ending on channel 40 in universe 1 then you DO NOT use #2:41 to begin the next model.  That's would create a 40 channel gap.  You use the #2:1 or just use the absolute number 41.

Just wanted to say Thank you, It looks like I have finally got my channels set correctly.
Nothing like getting it fixed at the last minute.
