Only one USB port working on Pi
« on: November 30, 2016, 07:46:16 AM »
I had a PI3 and installed 1.8 on it, and it would just complain that I need to insert my USB thumb drive, so I sent it back believing the USB ports did not work.  So I ordered a PI2B and loaded 1.5 on it (same as my other two pi players) and then upgraded it to 1.8.  On this one I get only 1 of the 4 USB ports to work.  So I can either have the Thumb drive or the EdiMax Wifi, but not both.  So did I get yet another unit with bad USB ports?

Try a better power supply. The starter kits usually come with underpowered wall warts. Not sure what the Pi3 requires, but 2A is probably safe (maybe even 1.5A). I bought a 5A last year and have had no more problems like this.

The recommended PS for a Pi3 is 2.4a.
