Setup help, Most of the display works, need another set of eyes
« on: December 07, 2016, 08:41:44 AM »
OK Thanks to Gilrock I got my Matrix set up as needed and works great

I went through the setup videos again do not see where my problem is.
All of my display is up and running/Testing as appropriate except the last few stars (Star 01 to Star 05)
I Have attached my configurations and was wondering if someone can take a second look and see where I'm messing up.

My setup is as follows:
Output 1 of F4V2: goes to Arch 2 then Arch 1 (Work fine)
Output 2 of F4V2: goes to Arch 3 then Arch 4 (Work fine)
Output 3 of F4V2: goes to Star 06 to Star 10 (Work fine)
Output 4 of F4V2: goes to Star 05 to Star 10 (Do not show lights when selected individually in Test Lights )
*Note: when the F4V2 controller is selected in the "Test Lights" all elements on the F4V2 illuminate appropriately)

My XLights Portion

My F4V2 Portion

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm lost.  Why does Port 4 start on 1951?  That's right in the middle of Star 02.

Port 4 is used to control Star 05 to Star 01 (in that order)
I'm not sure of the F4V2 setup, That may be my problem, when I test individually only Star 05 to Star 01 I cant see Star 01 (or Star 02), so Star 01&02 may be lighting up.
Which one should I change?
1. Modify the F4V2 Port 4 to start on 1969 (Instead of 1951) [I did not think the Channel numbers on the F4V2 were the same numbers as XLights Channel Numbers]
If that's the case why do Arch 1-4 and Star 05 to Star 10 act appropriately?
2. Modify XLights to have Star 05 start on 1951?

I guess where I'm confused (Maybe because I'm using unicast) I don't understand how the numbers on XLights relate to F4V2? and I prefer to use unicast.

You are using absolute channel numbering so yes the channel numbers match between xLights and Falcon.   Its very simple...if you have Port 4 wired to Star 05 first then you just enter the start channel number you see in xLights for Star 05 which I see as 1696.

Well thinking about it I'm not sure the absolute numbers will match if you don't define all the universes on the Falcon.  So why not just make it simple on yourself and define everything with Universe and start channel method?

I had a hard time making things line up on my display using the Universe/Ch# method (in XLights). But I cannot be sure I had the F4V2 set up properly when attempting multiple solutions at midnight last night.

But I come back to, If that's the case why do Arch 1-4 and Star 05 to Star 10 act appropriately?

Im probably making things too hard (It's what I do... joking)

Sorry I can't follow what you're doing you just need to make all your numbers line up.  Your first post says output 3 controls stars 06 to 10 and output 4 controls stars 05 to 10 so that doesn't make sense to me.  Those ports do not control the same stars.

I always start each controller at the beginning of a universe.  So if I have an element plugged into port 1 or an F16v2 and I'm using universe 5 as the first one on that controller then I set the start channel for xLights and that controller to universe 5 channel 1.  Then everything behind it on that controller I daisy chain in xLights so I don't even need to know the universe number but if I want to see it for verification I just click on the model name and look at the hover tip.

Maybe someone like Jim that loves doing his whole show with absolute numbering can help you.  If I only tell my F16v2 to receive universes 5 to 10 I don't think it has any idea what my absolute channels numbers are for the first 4 universes so I guess that means you would have to tell every controller to receive every universe.  I just like to enter the universes each controller actually uses.

maybe I'll take a shot at Multicast, I hate to think about renumbering everything when most of the display works as currently set up.

Why would multicast change anything?  You should always use exclusive universe numbers whether its unicast or multicast and then in xLights you just enter #35:27 for Universe 35 channel 27.  It doesn't get any easier.

I apologize for the back and forth, thanks for your patience

Wouldn't I need to set up the F4V2 differently?
Right now...
Arches 2 (XLights Ch#121-420) and Arch 1 (XLights Ch#421-720) on Output 1 (F4V2 Ch#1-600) [Work Correctly]
Arches 3 (XLights Ch#721-1020) and Arch 4 (XLights Ch#1021-1320) on Output 2 (F4V2 Ch#601-1200) [Work Correctly]
Star 06-10 (XLights Ch#1321-1695) on Output 3 (F4V2 Ch#1201-1950) [Work Correctly]
BUT:
Star 05-01 (XLights Ch#1696-2070) on Output 4 (F4V2 Ch#1951-2700) (do not work correctly)

I am so confused :o

Well Star 05 in xlights is channel 1696 which in xLights you have mapped starting at Universe 5 channel 40.  So then you gotta look at what channel on the F4v2 is universe 5 channel 40 mapped to and that would be F4v2 channel 1577 not 1951.  In your F4v2 your universe 5 start channel is 1537 so add 40 to that.  Now you see how crazy it is to use a numbering scheme like this.  You are constantly having to do this complex translation to get from the xLights raw channel number to the F4v2 raw channel number.  I could fix your entire setup in like 15 minutes so not sure why you don't want to renumber it so that its easy and a 1 to 1 matchup.

I am receptive to doing this, especially since I wont have to remember anything. I just don't have confidence in my ability to implement. Even though its easy, I'm not sure I know how to do it, the only way I was able to get it to work  I will give it a shot tonight.

You don't have to change your scheme but do you see how the numbers aren't matching up?
