Possible Forum Addition
« on: October 20, 2016, 06:15:36 AM »
There are times that I cannot go through all the threads in a sitting.
With that said, if I do have to quit in the middle, then return - the choice of "Show unread posts since last visit" misses all those that were in existence at the last session that did not get read.

I know I can click on "Show unread posts since last visit" and when it comes up empty then click on the center bar's choice, but that is a kludge.

What I am asking for is the addition of "Show all unread posts" to the selections for "...since last visit" and "...replies to your posts."

It would be most appreciated.  Thanks.

+1 to that!!

I wasn't sure if viewing on both tap talk on my phone and then on my laptop changes the pointer to where I am, but now I understand the difference you are talking about and thats why I miss a lot of the posts here.

I can't tell what this request is all about.  "Show unread posts since last visit" does not miss anything for me.  If its unread then its unread and still shows up when I hit that link.

Ok I see what you mean about the bar in the middle.  I had never even noticed that link before.  I guess I haven't run into the first problem you mentioned because I tend to leave the tab open for this forum.  I just come back to my PC and click on the tab and hit the link at the top to see all my unread posts.  What I run into is having trouble finding the posts I've already read that I need to get back to.  I never pay attention to what sub-forum I'm in.  If you click on Sean's name in the navigation link below Home and scroll to the bottom of the forum names you can see all recent posts and that's how I find the ones I've read.  Once they drop off that list then I can't find them.

Great request Al  I have often had the same thought.  After reading unread I just go back to the home button and scroll down looking for the icon on the topic to be changed which tells me there are unread posts there.  But it is a kluge and more time consuming especially as we get closer to the season and the list of unread gets longer.

Come here 10 times a day like me and you won't have a problem.

The number of times a day is not the issue Gil.  I read the forum at least 3 times a day, but You have said earlier that you never sign out.  The problem we have is that sometimes we want / need to take a quick look or look up something specific, but not read everything "new" and we may not be on our normal machine.  Say someone takes a quick look for something at work, but does not have time to read all the new posts.  Now we have to log out to get back to work or to leave the office and then log back in at home.  Once you log out the new posts since last visit is reset and those "new messages"  that did not get read, are no longer considered "new"  That is the reason for requesting an unread posts and not just new posts since last visit.

What you need is tapatalk. It can present the forum as a chronological stream like Facebook which makes this scenario easy to handle.

It has been a while since I've been on the site.  Too much to do, too many forums and too many entries to read.  My bad.

What forum software is being used here?  If I can get a copy of it, I'll do the legwork in finding how to do this and then report my findings.

The bottom of the page says Simple Machines, you might research that.   It also says that on the falcon forum.

I would just bookmark the "all unread" link.  That is the page I always leave open and normally bookmark.

Although I think there is something off in either tapatalk or the forum software.  The Falcon site uses the same software and about 3 times in the past 2-3 months, the Falcon forum lost track of what I had not read and reset my unread list so I lost 5-10 pages of unread items.  I am very careful not to hit the button in tapatalk to mark all items as read but still I have lost pages of unread threads several times.

Thanks to all  for your responses.  I have the software's manuals now and when I get a few extra minutes will see if there is something hidden somewhere that can be set.

Until then...
