Problems converting LOR to Xlights
« on: April 13, 2017, 04:08:06 PM »
Hello all!  I've been attempting to convert my LOR sequences to XLights, but I've been experiencing quite a few difficulties.  I've gone through the tutorials, I've painstakenly reorganized all of my channel configs in LOR and aligned all of my controllers to facilitate the import, but I've still been having problems.  I've been able to bring in all of my AC controller data by mapping the imports, but with thousands of RGB channels, it is way too hard to individually map that many channels.  I've broken down my sequences by tracks to see if I could successfully import just 1 matrix or just one group of RGB channels, but it still isn't working.  It appears that the conversion is looking to the output# rather than the assigned universe number.  Do the output numbers in Xlights have to match the universe number?  I hadn't previously heard that they had to.

For example, I have a matrix that is assigned to Universes 41-48 in LOR, but they are assigned to output #27 thru #34 with assigned universes of 41-48.  When I convert the file to xlights, it tries to map the file to outputs 41-48 which are assigned to my pixel trees and some of my arches.  Am I going to have to go back and reorganize all of my configuration in XLights?  Any light you can shed on this would save me what little hair I have left on my head.

Thanks!

Chad

I went through the same thing and it was a little tough to get my head around at first but after a little while it clicked. First off are you trying to run any Lor Networks? If so they need to be first. Second thing I can tell you is if you're going to be running from xlights you should concentrate on setting everything up to run from xlights. Once everything is set to run from xlights you may have to go back and make a custom channel lineup in Lor to match your xlights layout. Once that's done you can put your sequences into your custom layout buy copy and paste before you import them into xlights. I would get everything set up to run in xlights then make a test sequence in Lor to import starting from channel one or Universe one and test as you go along till you have it. At one point this'll all click and you'll just fly along getting this done. I'm making the Assumption you are doing the same thing that I did to convert over from sequence editor.

I plan to have XLights run everything.  My file sizes in LOR are almost 2 gigs now and my computer is about to blow up.  I need to convert in to get my file sizes to be more manageable.  Up until now, I have exported from Xlights into LOR and haven't had any problems.  However, it seems that during the conversion from LOR to Xlights, the converter is looking at the universes programed in LOR and marrying them up with the output # in Xlights rather than the universe # in Xlights.  My universes jump around in xlights and don't align with my output numbers.  What I need to know is if I have to reorder my set up to have the universe # and the output # in xlights to be identical so that they import the LOR universes to the correct output#.

Yes if you bring everything in as a data layer it has to match up perfectly. So I suggest  putting all of your  universes  in order  in xlights  and doing the same with your Lor file . You talk as though you're bringing it in as a data layer but you keep on saying convert, these are two totally different things. If you have 2 gigs of Lor files they're going to have to stay untouched on your computer if you bring them in as a data layer. If you're looking to reduce file size you will have to recreate the sequences in xlights. I went through the same thing and I just spent the last month recreating my sequences to get rid of the data layers. If you bring an Lor file in as a data layer xlights looks at the LMS file and brings the data in to the background and uses it to build the fseq file. If you used xlights to help build your Lor files couldn't you go back to those files to rebuild your sequence as an xlights only sequence?

OK...I've now successfully brought everything over as data layers.  I would just abandon my LOR sequences and move forward with my former xlights sequences; however, I only previously used Xlights to program my RGB lights (and only a portion of those).  I've been mostly concerned with bringing over the LOR AC controller sequences and some sequences that I did in Superstar for my CCR tree and my matrix.   I would love to convert the original superstar sequences, except a couple of years ago, my hard drive crashed and I lost ALL of my CCR sequences.  Luckily I had integrated that programming into my LMS files.  This whole ordeal has been quite challenging, but I think I've got the data layers brought over now.

Don't move or delete your LMS files because now your xlights file is linked to it. What I did to move forward was to go through and recreate all the effects from the LMS file in the xlights sequence so that I could eventually get rid of all of the Lor stuff. Another thing you can do now that you're this far is set up mapping so you can bring your LMS data over as effects. I went through the exact same process that you're going through now and I'm free of LOR now.
