Newbie - LOR to xLights
« on: July 18, 2017, 06:20:40 AM »
Thanks for reading this. Hopefully you will respond, for which I will be most grateful.

I need some guidance on my conversion from LOR S4 to xLights.

I have 3 16 channel LOR A/C controllers and no pixels.
I have purchased 20 strands of 5v 50 nodes RGB and prepared 16 of them (added 2' extension and 2' male pigtail).
I have purchased a Holidaycoro AlphaPix 16 controller with 5V power supply.
I have used the test function of the controller and all
strands work as they should.
That is a lot of "I haves".... my apologies.
I read the wiki and watch many videos, but I am having some confusion of creating the correct environment on both sides, LOR and xLights.
Here is what I have done thus far and my questions:
Made sure all channels are accounted for. No gaps.  No non-networked channels.
Is that all I need to do on the LOR side?
I think that for every LOR channel I have to have a model defined in XL.
Is this true?
In XL I think I can define, for example, "roofline" as a model and it consist of more than one strand of lights each being on a different channel. Roofline = strand 1 channel 1, strand 2 channel 2, etc.
If this is true, then I assume I can control each strand individually or as a model (meaning the effect could apply to all the members of the model).

I am getting a bit discouraged and even though about just upgrading my SuperStar instead of converting. Please, talk me off the ledge! LOL.

Pretty much everything you said is true.  I didn't see you mention any problems.  Is something not working?  Also I couldn't tell if you wanted to import sequences from LOR to xLights or are you just trying to create your visualization in the Layout screen?  Its really easy once you get the hang of it.  There is a Wed. night Zoom session where you can get help or several of us would be willing to do a TeamViewer session and share your screen to help out.  My next 2 nights are pretty busy but by Thurs I should be available.  Also you could post a LOR .lms sequence along with your visualization .lee file and I could take a look.  If it's fairly easy I could make a video showing how to set it up as long as you don't mind it being shared publicly so it could help others.

Thank you for the offer of help...  And I am sorry for not being clear. I want to import LOR into XL. My first venture into pixels will be a mega tree.  I have only done LOR and only A/C light stands.

I have not yet made it far enough to have something not work. I just didn't know if I was going in the right direction. I am in the position of "I don't know what I don't know".

Let me get busy on getting xLights setup (I have not setup my models yet) and I am certain your experience and knowledge will put me in a better position.

You will not regret moving from LOR to xlights. You will probably wish you had done it sooner.
