long distance cable...not work..
« on: September 24, 2017, 12:48:47 PM »
I have a problem that makes me very curious, maybe for those who have a lot of experience this problem may not be anything, but there are many people who are just starting out like me, that's why we ask for help. my star has 270 pixels and I have divided it into two outputs of 135 pixels each, as the star goes over my mega tree, I have to connect a cable about 10 feet to get to the controller,  here is the problem , when connect the cable of 10 fts does not work, only two pixels are lit but if I put a small cable, works well the whole star, maybe it has to do with null pixels or something is wrong, same happens with arch, in the picture is the star the outside side with cable of 10 fts and the interiors with a small cable, all this happened since I upgrade the firmware in the controller E-682 San devices. Thank you for helping everyone.

If you have a voltmeter check the power but at 10 feet you should be fine. San devices don't get the distances that other controllers do. See if you can get your hands on some u-amps that would clear up your problem.

I built and tested my star today. 18' of 16Awg cable to the star, 1 u-amp in the first foot. Works great, amazing item.

Nelson, we regularly use 10' extensions with our San Devices E682s (6 of them this year).  Have never had a problem at that distance.

However, if you find that you need to, there are resistor packs on the E682s that you can adjust the resistance on the outputs and you can get far better distance.  There are threads in the forums about doing this.  I don't have the information right here, but someone might be able to add the resistor pack values for you to acquire.

thank you guys for the interest to help me, the new firmware version for the E-682 card in the output configuration has the option to adjust the timing, originally it is programmed to 150ns and it was very low, I uploaded it to 300ns and now works perfect even the lights are brighter.
