New To xLights! Advice?
« on: October 30, 2017, 02:25:31 PM »
Hey all!!

So, a bit of a backstory before I get started. . . I've been doing synchronized light shows for a couple of years now, and I'm looking at transitioning from LOR to xLights, and was wondering what kind of headaches I can look forward too, and how much of my equipment will work with xLights. I really like the effects that xLights provides, but I'm not sure where to begin. How much more difficult is it to use xLights over LOR's Pixel Editor? Also, for those of you who have been doing this for a while, maybe some advice on what, if any, of my existing equipment will be able to work with xLights!

Existing Equipment:
- 2 LOR AC Controllers.
- 1 LOR "dumb" RGB controller for my RGB floods.
- 3 AlphaPix E1.31 "smart" RGB controllers.
- Countless "smart" RGB strips.
- Countless "smart" RGB nodes.
- And of course thousands of regular single color LED Christmas Lights.

I'm really trying to get a feel for how easily I will be able to transition my show from LOR to xLights, so any feedback you all can provide me with will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
~Matt

You would be better asking this over of the official xlights facebook page where general users are more active.

No way to gauge how easy it will be for you to use xLights or make the transition.  That kinda depends on you.  If you tell us your high school GPA, SAT scores, and any college degrees we can better guess. ;)

All that equipment can run in xLights.  It will be easier if you can run the LOR equipment in DMX mode and use a DMX output from a controller instead of trying to use a LOR USB dongle.
