Making Models for Multiple colors of net lights
« on: December 03, 2017, 10:48:21 AM »
Hi. I'm new to Xlights and have been watching as many 'how to' videos as possible. I watched Clyde's video on controlling AC lights but cannot wrap my Brain around it.

I have layered multiple colors of net lights  to create the same effect.  (Net Lights, R and G, and. B, and W)
I cannot fig out if there's a better way to do this in XL, other than make 5 models ...  I cannot find any post online and any help, even the smallest little bit, would be so appreciated.
Sincerely,
Michael King
Sacramento, CA
Grateful for the support,
Michael

I just played around with xlights to see how I would do it.
I used the matrix model to make a net then set the string type to 4-channel rgbw you could set the strings and lights per string to whatever you want with one strand per string then use individual start channels and set all of the Start channels to one.
This would give you one model that would react to whatever color you put on it.
You could also do this and set it as a single color and stack them on top of each other slightly offset to get more of a realistic look to your model.
You could treat these as separate models or put them in a group.

In the second option you would have to set all the start channels has 1 through 4 (as an example) to match the colors and channel outputs to your nets.

Thank you for the reply. (I'm having trouble replying, b/c when I open this post, it's blank and I cannot see your post until I sign out.  It feels like Terrible technology Tuesday, but on a Sunday)

I tried the matrix but am not sure I understand how to make it respond to diff colors.
I have 4 sections of net lights,  and each section has R, B, G, W.
So the channels are:
Net 1 - R
Net 1 - G
Net 1 - B
Net 1- W
Net 2 - R,  and so on

I've tried the over lapping idea and putting them into a group. But when I drop a color or a bars wipe on the group,  it doesn't respond accordingly. In fact, the model preview shows nothing unless I tick off the colors in the color palette.
Grateful for the support,
Michael
