2 p10 Matrix - solved
« on: December 11, 2017, 01:02:28 PM »
Good Afternoon folks.. I have two p10 matrices, in xLights they are consecutive in setup. prior to them i have a large Angel from Boscoyo.

If memory serves its 270 pix. I have a model that is custom, listed as ANGEL_ALL which is all bulbs. Then I have from there on i have straight line models representing foot1, dress, dress2, face, hair, wings, etc.. this allows me make each section of the angel a separate color. like that James Hohensee has on his web page with a blue dress, and golden hair.

The first p10 matrix is running 1.8 on a bbb, and is working fine. It is 2 panels wide and 3 high and ends on channel 57578 universe 138. Images and text are clear a seem aligned just fine.

My next model is a large p10 matrix is running the latest 1.9 on bbb. I have it started on 57579 universe 139. I entered that in the first line for output, clone it 59 more times. (total of 60 universes ((20 panels*3 colors)*512 channels)=30,720 channels    In xLights all of my universes are 512, in the bbb its 512, in the FPP its 512. But, it seems as though each line is 1 or 2 pix too long so the next line starts 1 or 2 pixels indented and that repeats on a a steep angle and is nearly unreadable. i have checked in an excel sheet, the numbers match whats in the setup tab of xLights, and the layout tab. This large P10 matrix has 2 buffers, left and right. it was working just fine earlier in the season and all last year. After adjusting a few universes ahead of this matrix, and modified all subsequent models accordingly.. it all went ga-BOINK!
Now its graphics are on a 45degree angle halfway across the board.

This year has been my year from hell with so many issues stemmed from last years harsh winter and wind.
3 weeks in and i am still chasing issues, what seem to be overlaps but just don't make sense.
I have checked each model in the layout page one at a time with "Check for Overlaps" checked, no overlaps shown.

I thought i saw it, made a change, i re-rendered all my sequences and re-uploaded them all to the FPP.
still no fix.
reboot bbb, no fix
on the bbb tab the start channel is correct 32x16 1/8 scan
i tried changing the scan ratios, no fix
I changed the color bits 7 or 8, it got worse.

So very frustrated staring at the same numbers and just not seeing it.

What am i doing wrong?

Images of your setup will help people spot your issues. It does sound a lot more complicated than it needs to be.

1 and 2 are of the large P10 matrix, 3 is of the small p10, and an image of the actual matrix

change channel counts to 510, as 512 /3 - 170.667 universes, and that may reason why you are out 1-2 pixels each time
other option is setup each univerese for the length of the run of the pixels
if matrix is 3 x 4 (16 x 32) = 48 universe x 128 pix long
ie u139 ch384, u 140 ch384...... etc until u187 ch384
and set up XL setup the same

P10 panels (32x16) work best at 512.  510 is for some pixel controllers but not for P10.

32 x 16 = 512 pixels
3 channels per pixel, so EXACTLY 3 DMX-512 universes per panel.

What is your xLights configuration?

This is one of my 5x4 P10 panel setups in xLights (512 sized universes)

And what do you mean "2 buffers" ?  My 5x4 is connected to 5 outputs of a BBB.
Do you have yours setup on a pair of RasPi matrix boards?

Thx Jon,

i have two sub-models, but when you open submodels it says buffers, i have 66% on the left, 34% for the right buffer.  I see yours are on edge, 5 tall 4 wide. mine are 5 wide 128pix, 64 pix tall.

Ok. I did the submodel setup for Halloween.

If you are 5 wide, 5x32 is not 128, it is 160.

Jon,

i discovered my mouse must have been in the configuration area when i thought i was typing in an excel sheet. when i saw the save button the other day and i didn't knowingly change something. that's the only time i can think  changed. i referred back to my 2016 show layout and it was 160x64, earlier in 2017 it was correct, i went thru bunch of backups and it was 10 days ago. It's all about the numbers. None of this is very forgiving about incorrect numbers. :)
