The way I troubleshoot is try to isolate the problem to as small as possible.  Have you created a brand new sequence and dropped just one effect and a couple timing lines and been able to reproduce the issue?

I tried exactly what you describe. I played the song. Stopped it and did a bunch of selection both with and without timing marks. No hangs.

Gil--good idea.   I tried what you suggested--setup new sequence dropped two effects on a few props, set some manual timing marks, then played the sequence music and got the hang as is the case with other sequences.   I had tried another sequence as a troubleshooting step and I got the hang on that one too.

Here is a bit longer video that shows the sequence not hanging when selecting effects under the "good" conditions shown in my earlier post, then hanging when selecting an effect with timing marks showing up in the sequencer panel and after having played the sequence music in the sequencer.

I dont have your audio file so I had to substitute in one.

I opened the sequence. Selected one of the timing tracks. Played the sequence. Stopped the sequence and then selected a bunch of cells including some effects ... no hang.

The big thing that looks odd about your video is the selection does not seem to happen exactly where your mouse is ... it seems to be below your mouse ... that is something which i suspect may be part of the problem but I cant seem to reproduce that.

Tell me more about your machine, operating system, 32 vs 64 bit xLights, Is this a common problem in other apps? Can you try it on another monitor?

Thanks again Keith.    I am using a two year old Dell Alienware 17R3 laptop.   I do not have similar problems with any other apps.   I can connect a monitor to the laptop and see if that makes a difference.
I attached the audio file to this post.

Are you runing your monitor (laptop screen)  at native resolution?

Not sure how to answer that.   The setting is whatever the laptop default was when I got the machine..    On the display settings panel, the resolution is "3840 x 2160 (recommended)".    In devices panel, monitor properties is  "generic PnP monitor" with display adapters intel HD graphics 530 and NVidia GeForce gtx 970m.   Not sure if that is the answer to your question though.

Is there perhaps some video setting (or maybe driver update...?) or other setting I could change on my laptop that might resolve this issue with my machine?  Thanks!

Well your sequence works great on my desktop.

I have been crashing multiple times tonight. I can see that it is some how tied to pressing pause during my song playback. If I hit stop I do not crash. It is not every time but many times. I have attached a video of it happening.
Try it..... what's the worst that could happen.

Sorry I wasn't talking about your sequence.  You're thread got hijacked so I got confused and was looking at someone else's sequence.

I Understand. We both have the same issue. I don’t know if the video I provided helps but more info is always better.

Unless we can cause it on our machines its very rare that just seeing a video of a crash is going to help us.
