Wiring layout understanding on mini tree

Newbee question.

I am trying to understand the wiring layout of a mini tree I am putting together. When I displayed the wiring view the node numbers don't make sense to me. I am hoping for someone to clarify how the strings/nodes lay out. The tree is 12 strings with 12 nodes per string. On the wiring view I see 1:1 - 1-9 and then 4:9 is the next node. I don't understand where 1:9 - 1:12 went to. If someone could explain this to me I would appreciate it.

It's because the model is wrapping around at the edges so 1 and 12 are being trampled.  If you really want to see it better you could temporarily switch it to a "flat" style tree and I bet it would show up better.

That view works. New question (related)... when you run each string do you cut the pixel strings at the top  (say 1:12) and then splice on a 3 core cable at the top, run it to the bottom and splice it onto the second string and then so on through all strings?

I would zigzag the wiring. See the strand per string setting.

Thanks for the idea. I must be blind because I do not see that attribute on the tree model. Does it only become visible when another attribute is set?

From memory it is the third or fourth setting down the list. It would be titled strands/string and would have a value of 1

Ok, found Strands/String and the value is 1. I have read the description in the manual but do not understand how increasing the value gets me the zig-zag pattern. When looking at my layout screen and changing the value I see the model change but not to zig-zag. Maybe it's obvious to some but not to me at the moment.

With a 100 node string that will go up 50 and down 50 you have nodes / string =100  strands per string =2

Oh it most surely did change to zig-zag if you made it greater than 1.  Just right-click the model and look at the resulting node layout.  If you don't understand how it happens just be happy that is does happen.

My efforts at making mini trees has not gone as planned, so today I ordered 8 mid size trees from Holiday Coro. I am updating my layout and want to see if what the HC tree requires is what I have set. I will be doing 270 degree version and here is the details from HC. Are my understanding and settings correct?

There are no column headings for those specs so I have no idea what the 80 and the 112 mean.  But I can tell you that you probably don't have 14 nodes per string.  If you have 14 nodes divided by 4 strands that leaves 3 pixels per strand with a couple left over.  The nodes per string is how many total nodes are in the string even as it zig zags.  So if I said I had 3 strings with 100 nodes per string and 4 strands per string that would produce a 12 column tree with 25 pixels per column.  So the number of pixels per column will be nodes per string times strands per string.  Hopefully that's enough info to figure it out.

the medium tree has 112 nodes. at 12v you might be able to stretch one string for all 112. so set strings to 1.
nodes per string is 112.
strands per string is all the up and down and that will be 8. xlights will figure out the 14.
if you use 2 strings, then you would have 56 nodes per string and 4 strands per string.
