text scrolling question
« on: May 13, 2018, 07:48:58 AM »
Is there an easy way to get text to scroll once and disappear?

I would like a phrase to move across the matrix and scroll completely off to the left without reappearing on the right again.  I can fiddle with length and speed and finally get it to work. Just hoping for a less labor intensive method. I see a 'move to center and hold" check box, but I'd like to march off the matrix and never come back.

There's no easier method.  The entire effect would need to be redesigned and would need to adjust speed based on the duration of the effect.

Try using the “move to center and hold” option, but also add a whole bunch of spaces at the end of your text - at least enough to move your text off the screen before it holds at “center”.   That way, the visible text will have shifted off the screen before it holds position in the center of all the spaces.   Like this:

“Sample Text                      “
                   ^^^^^^^^^^

...would need to adjust speed based on the duration of the effect.

That would be a really nice enhancement if possible.

I find the static speed setting awkward to use since it takes multiple trial and error attempts to find the right value depending on text length and effect duration.   It would be really great to have an “iterations” setting instead of “speed” and it would calculate the correct speed base on text length and effect duration.   For example, setting “iterations” to 1 would move the text across 1 time during the duration and would adapt accordingly if/when the text or duration is changed.  Setting “iterations” to 2 would adjust the speed so the text scrolls exactly 2 times over the effect duration.

Well it shouldn't take any trial and error.  Just double-click the model a couple times to open up a middle strand where the text is.  You can see exactly where it repeats.  Hover your mouse to figure out the correct cut-off time.

Thanks for the tip, but how does that tell us what SPEED value to use?

Using that trick, don't we still have to use trial and error with the speed slider/setting to get it to fit a given duration?   And with the fixed integer speed values, it's often not possible to hit the cut-off exactly.

(BTW, what am I supposed to see when I hover over the area you pointed to?  Is there supposed to be a tool-tip popup?  Is there a setting for that? I'm not seeing it).

Yes my tip show how to fit a duration to a given speed.  Also you should see a line in the timeline marking where your cursor is as you move it and I believe the time prints down in the lower right corner but that may only be when you're over an effect.
