[SOLVED] Attempting new LOR Controllers in xlights setup
« on: June 06, 2018, 12:24:34 PM »
So - at the moment I have LOR controllers - unless someone buys my equipment and I can move to Flacon, etc. that's what I'm using for the time being.
That being said...I decided to try to add my LOR controllers into xlights - watching a YouTube Video by Gil Jones about setting up an LOR Network in xlights.
My first (in my LOR world) controller is Unit ID 01 and is an A/C Controller (LOR 160xW g3) - it went in as I'd expect (of course I haven't got anything connected to test it). I also answered that it has 16 channels on it as I can plug in 16 A/C items....addressed as Unit ID 01-channel 01 in LOR. Is that correct?

Then I moved on to my 50W RGB Flood Lights - 5 of them. I am selecting RGB Controller for those (assuming that is correct). Then for their Unit Id they are on 17-1D --- so 17, 18 and 19 went in as I'd expect but I can't type in 1A nor is 1A in the list. How do I use those Unit IDs that have letters A-F as  a part of their numbers? Also, I assume that I assign these as only 1 channel, correct? I believe, though have no experience with it, that the 50W RGB Floods can also be set to run in DMX mode --- but nothing else I have is DMX capable, I don't think, so I figured I'd keep it all straight LOR.

The rest of my items are Pixie2 or Pixie 8 controllers which I see in the list - have yet to try adding them in there...but assume they'll make sense if I got the A/C controller right...and the Floods right

I should have also mentioned that in my RS485 USB networking on my PC I use multiple Networks on various COM Ports to avoid lag. If I understand correctly in the LOR Set Up Window in the Connection Details I give each one of my networks a different Id number and specify its corresponding COM Port - then assign whichever controllers happen to run on that network.

Am I understanding this correctly?

So while awaiting a reply to these  questions I went on to add my Cosmic Color Bulbs... they are considered a Pixie2 controller by LOR - each having 2 Unit IDs per controller... so...
Do I put it in with unit ID 20 and 2 channels (to represent Unit IDs 20 & 21 which is how LOR sees it)...or do I put in each half of the controller as it's own Unit ID?

Sorry for all of these seemingly stupid questions - I'm just trying to get myself going with xlights.

To set the unit ID just use the spinner arrows.  It will show you the equivalent hexadecimal value beside the decimal number.  0x1A = 26 decimal so if you typed in 26 that would be correct for the 1A unit.  Just like 19 really stands for hexadecimal 0x19 which is 25 decimal.  When you use 10 it doesn't mean ten it means sixteen.

I have no experience with those floods either but if they are RGB I would expect it to be at least 3 channels minimum.

Only 1 COM port per output so you'd need to create 2 outputs to handle 2 networks.

I don't remember I'd have to go back and watch my own video or you can watch it.  Whatever I did for the Pixie I had would be the same method.

OK - I get it now --- on the ixie8 trees I have - I put in the 150 per output..makes sense.
On the RGB Floods I recall now that in LOR you have to have R G B & 2 channels for strobe controls - so 5 channels there.

Thanks so much! I went back and tried the decimal entry instead of the hexadecimal entry and it does just fine now!!!!

I really appreciate your help and the video is helping, too!!!!
Thanks!

So I browsed the code and Pixie2 is not listed so you'd need to select the RGB Controller option.  The Pixie options are really the same as RGB Controller I was just trying to give options that made it obvious for Pixie users and what it does is automatically strips the number from the end of the word to know how many outputs there are.

But then it doesn't switch to per output - so instead I put in 150 for each --- the problem is that in LOR each Pixie2 is seen as two Unit IDs - so do I just put in each one separately (ie: 10 at 150 channels and 11 at 150 channels) - or do I put it in as 1 unit ID with 300 channels - or does xlights really not care at all?

Yeah you would need to add 2 RGB Controllers and set each one to "Normal" addressing mode.  In "Normal" mode the device only has 1 unit ID.  "Legacy" addressing mode rolls the unit ID every 16 channels so you just define the first unit ID and I roll the id's for you in the packets.  The Pixie's just hard-code it to be Normal addressing mode and you enter how many channels per output and I again roll the unit ID's.
