Crash in .16 on Mac
« on: June 19, 2018, 12:33:29 PM »
Just upgraded to .16 today on my Mac.
In an open sequence I have a Shapes effect...if I select it with the Option Key depressed all is well...
if I click elsewhere it unselects, then I click someplace as if to place a new effect, then click on the effect with the Option Key depressed the program quits responding (crash report generated)...BUT, I can not click the cancel button or anything else, I had to Force Quit the program from the Dock.
I repeated this several times, and attach a screen recording showing it....but I guess my internet connection is too slow today (I live out in the country and have CRAP for internet speeds...so I t wouldn't send this report. I'm happy to "Zoom" with you to demonstrate it or show you anything you would like.
I also went to attach the Debug "zipped stuff" generated by the program....and it doesn't exist - I guess because the program locked up before it wrote that file and my Force Quit stopped that process.

"Why is he pressing the Option Key when clicking on an effect?," you may be asking!!! Well, I was trying to figure out how people in the videos I am watching are clicking and dragging an effect from one model to another, or from one place to another, in the sequencing grid. I have been unable to find that in the manual...and everyone just does it with out saying what they are doing - so I don't know how to do it! Perhaps I have glossed over that part of the videos, but I sure can't seem to figure it out - plus being on a Mac it may be different from what a Windows user might do anyway. So - that is what I was doing...clicking modifier keys and trying to then select an effect and get it to move elsewhere.

FYI - my zipped Screen Recording file is about 70-meg...
I also tried FTPing it up to my personal website where you could have gotten it...but it won't go there either!
This crappy internet service here is driving me crazy.
Since I could duplicate it multiple times, perhaps you can, as well. Maybe it's not dependent on my specific sequence and settings.

If you see someone moving an effect between rows that is only done using the Up/Down arrow keys.  I assume the Option key is like the Control key on Windows.  You only need that to add or remove an effect from a currently selected group of effects.  If it crashes just control clicking when no effect at all is actively selected the fix will be to just block that action so you can just quit doing that.  It sounds like you should just click the effect to select it then use the arrow keys to move it.  Or just click an effect and then click the same effect type from the toolbar and drag it into place.  That will force it to copy the settings of the first effect you clicked on.

FYI... a Mac has as Modifier keys: Shift, Control, Option, and Command. Command is usually equivalent to Control on the Windows machines (ie: Cmd+C = Copy and Cmd+V =Paste, etc).

I tired using the Up/Down arrows as you suggested.....

On a single effect it worked as I'd expect, moving the effect up or down, left or right.

On two or more effects selected, the up arrow does nothing, the down arrow moves it down, left and right move it as expected.

That's not always true.  You can move multiple effects up and down.  If it didn't move then something was blocking it unless someone has introduced a new bug.  There are a lot of crazy scenarios you can run into when trying to move multiple effects.  The problem is that the same model's layer can exist in more than one location on the screen.  You could have a model by itself and then repeated in several other places due to the model existing in a group.  So I've seen it where the same effect was visible in 3 places on the screen so when you attempt to move that effect its not always clear which row will be the target of the move.  Moving it down from any of those 3 spots might place it on a different model in each instance.

It's really best to just cut and paste the effects.

Ok ---- that one went through - what I did was cut off the end of the recording which showed that the program had seized and that I had to force quit xLights to get out of it. This only shows me "causing" the crash and then it stops.

Gil...here is a screen shot showing the two effects I selected that would not move upwards when I pressed the UP ARROW - all three other arrows did move them. I don't see any reason they wouldn't move or anything blocking them. A screen recording won't help much in this case since you can't see me pressing the keys in it...this just shows the sequence.

I need to see the row headings to have a better idea of what might be going on or better yet just package the sequence and post it.
