Adjust brightness, search not helping
« on: August 04, 2018, 03:55:24 PM »
Using xLights for the first time and after a brief overseas "work trip" I'm beack and getting my sequencing done. As I'm know the LEDs t 100% will be blinding as well as power hogs, I see where most are running about 60% output. From searches I've done I see reference to 'gamma value' in the model settings. Want to be sure I'm looking at the correct thing.
When I click on an element, say an arch, and the box opens on the left with name, start channel, size, etc. I go to "dimming curve" and in the 'gamma' field where is has 1.0 I just change to .6?
At this will give a top limit of the light output?
I'm using SanDevices controllers, PC to run it all and would love to know that the gamma field is all I need to do.

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Joe

Most of us adjust are brightness down in the controllers.
I'm not sure if the  SanDevices has this option.
If you adjust the brightness down in xlights you limit the range of color that it can display, each color has a range of 0 to 255 Within xlights and if you were to turn the brightness down 50% then you cut that value in half for color combinations it can output.

If you are running with xScheduler you can use the Output Processing under Edit menu to reduce brightness in a range of channels.  It shouldn't matter where you reduce the brightness.  The way a controller reduces brightness is exactly the same as the way xLights does it.

Excellent options from you both. Since I'd like to keep color quality and the SanDevices doesn't have controller adjustment I believe I'll handle it at the xSchedule level.
So I should return the gamma setting to 1.0 then?

Thanks to you both.

Yes.  Personally I would edit the xlights_rgbeffects.xml file and delete all the dimming curve sections.  It's just going to add a bunch of unneeded lines to the file that basically tell it to use the defaults.
