splitting a universe across two e6204 controllers
« on: November 08, 2018, 07:04:02 PM »
Hi everybody, I have a question. I have a matrix with 3600 leds and I am using 2 E6204 controllers and in xlights I am trying to split a universe across both controllers. I have 480 leds on each of the four outputs on the first controller and on the second I have 480 on the first 3 channels and 240 on the last one.

So, that's 22 universes and the E6204 can use only 12 universes per controller. So my last set of 480 pixels on the first controller ends at a universe and channel 150, I need the next controller to start at that same universe and channel 151.

I try to set Xlights up in the setup E131, I set the first part of the universe to end at channel 150 and I don't know how to set up the second half of that universe to start at 151, it ask what the ending channel is and i put 360 in there, what is left after using 150 channels of that universe. But when I run my programs there is a hole at that point.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

thanks

thanks

The entire universe is going to reside in one packet so you have to send the universe to both controllers.  Then inside the controller its completely up to you which channels you assign to an output.  Nothing says you need to use them all.

So how do copy a universe using a different address and use the same channels? Every time I create another universe with the same number, the channels keep adding up another 510 pixels.

thanks

I don’t get this.

Why not just start the new controller on a new universe. It can still be the channel immediately after 150 if you make the prior universe only 150 channels.

In my matrix, it is 3600 pixels. The matrix is 60 x 60 pixels.  I divided it up across 2 controllers using 480 pixels on each of the 4 outputs of the first controller and the same for the second one. just made wiring easier. I cant split a row in the matrix where a universe ends, then start the next one and have the "zig every" option work right.Somewhere in there I have to end at the end of a row and start the next row at the next controller.

Also the model was created by xlights and all the channels are in order, Don't know how to change the order of channels in xlights generated models.

thanks

Problem solved:
Thought about what keithsw1111 said and all I had to do was not worried about the rest of the universe that I wanted to move to the other controller. I was under the impression that a model in xlights that uses more then one universe has to use all the channels of the universe before going to the next universe. But if in setup of the E131 you tell xlights that there is only so many pixels or channels on that universe, it will move on and assign to the next universe.

thanks for the help. It is amazing how just a little information can make you look at things differently.

This years show will be awesome

thanks again
