As above previews are not working for me properly. i have rendered all, updated xlights and all drivers.

i have even tried downgrading xlights back a few months and still no good.

sometimes if i click an effect a wait it will show, but some wont also some effect seems to always preview fine.

i have just made a new sequences 40fps 8mins long for testing and same problem happens.

just getting into this and next year i want to sequence to music and cant work out how you would do it unless the preview was 100% accurate/in time/no lag

computer spec far exceeds what the program requires also

thanks in advance  :)

Any crashes?  Log files?

Also, 8 mins is a LONG sequence at 40fps.  Can you make a 2 min one and test again?  Maybe share it?  Also, what are you computer specs and OS version?  Thanks!

And what effects? Some effects can be slow to render. Particularly on large models.

Start with something simple like on or bars. Does that render fast?

If not maybe there is something in your setup.

Dan if it helps focus your attention this is not sounding like a bug in the program.  I even run into things like this myself when I was getting sequences ready for my show but I'm pretty good at knowing what is probably not a bug so that focuses me to dig in and find what I have set wrong.

As I said I’m relatively new to this.

Sorry I didn’t know 8mins was long as I want to have my lights on all evening.

I will test out later but I’m guessing you are saying instead of putting lots of effects all into one sequence I should spilt them up say 2mins at a time and go from there.

Computer spec for starters are 4.0Ghz intel i7, 32gb ram, Nvidia gtx 1080, Samsung 970 pro ssd.

Spec isn’t the issue, and also I have watched the resources and when I click on render all xlights never uses more than 25% of any resource. But I have tested other software and that will use what it can.

I have a 23 foot tall mega tree will that look much worst if I drop down to 20fps?

Thanks all

I would suggest reading up on this thread I started a few months ago.  It will really give you a perspective on how rendering works, where the bottlenecks are and how to be more efficient with it.  Also, make sure you enable Render Cache.

Regarding running 20fps....I doubt you'd even notice a difference.  I mainly run 40fps to be exact in my singing faces as I can be more granular with timing.

I've seen this too and recently it was a picture effect less than 10 seconds duration.

I just today updated to .52 when I saw it. Wasn't there a previously problem similar to this several versions ago?    I hadn't seen it in a little while but I just saw it again today right after I updated.   Could be coincidence, not yet sure.

Edit: found the release notes of a recent similar problem.   Are they related?
