TRIED FOR HOURS
« on: December 15, 2018, 09:07:19 AM »
I have exhausted all options. Tried for hours, can't restore my rgbeffects.xml file containing all my 58 models info. When I try to load the rgb files I get " An unhandled exception occured. Press "Abort" to termine the program.
This occured after I downloaded the lasted verion .55.

I prefer to catch fish myself not served on a plate but I could use some professional help right now.  Thanks!

How exactly are you “loading” this file?  I thought it just needed to be placed in your show folder?

My show folder is correct but when I select the rgbeffects file it throws me the message: An unhandled exceptions occurred. Press " Abort" to terminate the program"Retry" to exit the program normally and "Ignore" to try and continue.  Selecting any one of those options either shuts xlights or nothing loads.

Other helpful info......last night I loaded another xlights  sequence on my laptop with a different show directory and left it open. This morning when I went to the main desktop running version I loaded the newest xlights when completed the latest version xlights loaded last nights laptop xlight sequence. Since then I've been all down hill.

I’ve never had to select the rgbeffects file.  Where is the option that allows you to select this file?

That's what mixing me up. Since updating xlight to latest version this morning when it restarted it opened my laptop version xlights files not my main xlights layout files. I haven't been able to find/restore the main rgbeffects file....soooooo confused because I've been opening all latest rgbeffects  when it gives me that exception window.

Again, I don’t understand why you’re trying to open your rgbeffects file, and you haven’t explained what option (in xlights) you’re using to try to open this file.

OK, will try to explain it again....sorry for the confusion. Before downloading the latest xlight version this morning I closed the xlights program on my desktop. I forgot I had another xlights version running on my laptop so when I opened the the new xlight program it loaded up the xlights from my laptop which had a different show directory and different models.
I have been trying to find my main models without success for several hours.....soooooo frustrating.

You’re clicking Open: RGBEFFECTS?

How/why?

You NEVER open the xlights_rgbeffects.xml file yourself that is there for xLights to open.  If you want help you're going to need to get into our Zoom channel or post a video showing how you open xLights and where things go wrong.

The way I'm searching is as follows:

Select Layout tab, then select the File-open sequence, in the search tab I enter rgbeffects and all xlight_rgbeffects files open.  Here is where trying to find the rgbeffects file that corresponds to the date and time of my last working sequence.
However when I open the various rgbeffects files models do not load.

Hope this helps.

As I’ve been saying from the beginning—you NOT should be opening the rgbeffects file

What instructions led you down this path?

rgbeffects is NOT a sequence ... so never try to open it.  You would only be opening *.xml files, which are the sequence files.  The rgbeffects is automatically loaded, but you never select it to be opened.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED. :) :) I have learned the hard way that moving files directories around is a bad thing. Cheers and Merry Christmas to All.
