As I understand as long as you don’t tick the 3D box and save your still in normal 2d mode.

Just make sure you backup your setup files.

I have not made the jump, but I understand that the rgb_effects file has new formats and once you save the sequence in the 2019 version you can not go back to 2018 so be sure to backup all your files before you start.

There is nothing more to tell.  When you save in the new version the model positions are upgraded to 3D positioning.  In the old version the values represented 0.0 to 1.0 which was a percentage of screen space.  Now the world has no limits so those numbers didn't make sense.  We now have to store an X, Y, Z world position for where each model sits.  Technically you could still open in the old version but the models will all show up in the lower left corner.  Best thing to do is just make a backup copy of the show folder or start a new one for 2019 like I do anyways and then open it up in the new version and see if anything looks different.  By default it should look the same.

When you are talking about a new show folder is this what you are talking about?
If I make a new folder in xlights & label it 2019 then change the link to c:\users\Mike\Documents\xlights\2019
Will that do what you suggested.
Sorry for asking dumb questions but old men do not like change when we are comfortable with what we have been using.
Thanks Mike

Well unless old men like to recreate everything I'd suggest backing it up. :)

For your path name Keith recommends not ending in the year because it messes up the name matching for images so I use c:\xLights\2018\Christmas and then this year it will change to c:\xLights\2019\Christmas.
