Trying to get xLights to run on a 2nd computer...
« on: June 16, 2019, 11:00:17 PM »
Okay, wife and daughter want to have access to sequencing in xLights when I am sequencing on a different computer. Installed xLights on wife's computer and moved the 2 "crucial" files over to the show directory: xlights_networks & xlights_rgbeffects. When I start xLights and navigate to the show directory, I can see on my Setup tab all the connections (i.e., E1.31, DDP, etc), but when I go to the Layout tab none of the models I have created on my computer and transferred over show up. I opened up the rgbeffects .xml file and all the info/data is in there, intact, so I'm stuck.

Is there some setting I'm missing?

You are doing it the way I do and I have not had any problems.  But my wife will never sequence, sigh.  I have it all on her computer (in the kitchen) so I can show her stuff I am doing on my computer (in the basement),  Even though the computers are all networked together I do copy the whole folder across and do not share the files, just a copy.  No computer accesses the live files of any other computer.

If you did what you said it will work.  Go back and check for mistakes....bad file names.

Well, I ended up copying files 2 more times and somehow that 2nd time did the trick. Yay!  ;D

Now I just have to figure out how to copy/move the mapping of elements over so that I don't lose the groups, otherwise there's going to be several sequences that will have to be completely reworked.  :'(  I opened up one sequence and found several group or element names that didn't want to transfer over without renaming or remapping them and when I tried figuring out how to do it, the final sequence is horribly wrong. Time to dig back through a video or two...   :-[

Package a sequence and move that over. It will ensure you have everything correct.

Pardon me, Keith, but "package a sequence"??  I'm a little confused by what you mean here.  :-[

Do you mean just copy a sequence file (the .xml file, not the .fseq file) over to the other computer? I did that -- in fact, just for giggles I copied both, and the above is what happened when I opened it on the wife's computer.

Package sequence is on the tools menu. It Hoover’s up all the files required for someone else to use your sequence so you can be damn sure you are transferring everything required.
