I had been looking at quite a few different shared sequences when the program locked up.
One had been tricky to find the show directory so I had had multiple tries to get it to run so most likely I stuffed up and got the program in a tangle.
xLights is now very slow to start, looks like is won't but after a few minutes it does get going.
