Problems with Sphere Model
« on: June 07, 2019, 08:31:50 PM »
Hi Keith and xlights team. I’m running into issues with the Per Preview setting not rendering correctly for the sphere model. Depending on how the model is rotated, sometimes the per preview will not render at all. For example, if I rotate the model 90 degrees on the x axis and 90 degrees on the y axis, I get a blank screen when running a simple bars effect. Can you please look into this strange behavior?  I have a pretty great prop built using this models but I’m having trouble getting it to cooperate. By the way, I have 3D turned off. Thanks!

Going to need a simple example sequence if you want us to do anything.

I've attached the rgbeffects and fseq files.  Let me know if I gave you the wrong stuff.  The sequence is super basic... just 3 bars effects.  The first one is set to "Default" render and works fine.  The second two do not render at all for me when set to "Per Preview".

With what i can see the problems are the rotations and the use of 2D ... I suggest you use a 3d camera to render this

I will make a change for .29 but i may then remove it if others complain. The rotations are the problem as it results in a zero width model ... as we zero out the z coordinate before rotating. I have changed it to zero out after rotating it.

Sorry about that.  Here is the packaged file.

That is interesting how rotating a sphere results in a zero width model.  I didn't think of that but I guess it is possible in a 2D world.  My layout is all in 2D.  Would I need to build out everything in 3D in order to have the model in 3D?  Other than people walking around the sphere, the rest of my display is really only viewed from the street so I haven't really explored going 3D due to the added complexity.

I'm hoping you are not considering removing the sphere model all together.  I really went all in and built my prop around it assuming some improvements would come over time.  Other than the "Per Preview" option, the default rendering has been working and is creating some great effects.

Like it or not your layout is 3D even when you choose to view it as 2D.
