Setup / Show Issue
« on: October 20, 2019, 09:57:19 AM »
I need some help with a few things. I feel like I have a handle on xlights but maybe not lol. The wife did all the programming for Halloween so I could have more time to set up and wire everything. We are having issues with a prop in our show having a mind of its own. We started our show last week and the wife notcied the black cat is doing weird colors when an effect is on it. We have a spider, hat and the black cat. She said she just copied one to the other so they should all match. The weird thing is they all do on a single color and some effects but most of the time the cat is all over the place. I feel it could be something I did to set eveything up. I would like someone to look over stuff for me if they have time. I know everyone is busy I just dont want it to spill over into our Christmas show if it is an error I did

Second this could be related and I have attached a picture and alog file but when I do the overlap check in the layout tab nothing overlaps. When I start clicking on the groups there is red everywhere. I am confussed about this. am I missing something?

Also I have a question about dumb rgb numbering. I have a 30 channel a 27 channel and a lor cmb 24 daisy chained. On the 30 channel I am only using 27 channel and then on the 27 I am ony using 24 how do you account for the unsed channels in set up. I went into xlight and skipped over the last 3 on the 30 channel and started the first prop on the 27 there. Is this the correct way to do that.

Thank you for all the help.

Did you check to make sure the color order maybe something other then RGB. Could be GRB, BRG, BGR, lots of different combos.

Yes I went through each sequence and checked I also thought maybe a bad pigtail so put a new one in the controller and then I thought even though it is a new controller maybe a bad port so I swapped the port and reconfigured and the problem followed. I don't know if I am going crazy or what. I am not sure at this point. I am just worried it will spill over into the Christmas show so trying to figure it out.....

Did you mean to say you started the second prop on 27?  If you have all 3 of those on one output then it depends on what channel does each controller think it's picking out of the data stream which I believe is determined by the unit id you set in each unit.  I would probably just model them in xLights with the size they are so make the output big enough for all the channels and then just don't sequence or map any models to the unused channels.

No I have the singing pumpkin on the 30 channel and it ends on channel 27 so I have 3 unused. Then my tombstones are on the 27 channel so I was trying to figure out how to account for the gap I did not know if you would set the dmx address for second controller to 28 or if it was best to leave thoes channels open and start it on 31 and then just skip thoes channel in xlights. That is what I did and I think it is working. I just did not know if there is a better way!!!

Since its only a few channels its easier to leave the gaps so they are easier to fill if you connect something to those channels later.
