strand numbering vs f16 outputs
« on: December 02, 2019, 11:20:02 AM »
Hello,

I have an odd issue I hope someone can help me with.  on part of my roofline I have one output of an f16 receiver card going to the side of the porch and goes back towards the garage one 40 pixel strand and then connected to other strands to complete the roofline over the garage for another 170 pixels with 2" spacing.  The issue I have is this entire run goes right to left but for some reason the left most section over the garage is behaving very odd.  I have a part where the entire roof is red with white twinkles but that one section has twinkles of 3 white pixels instead of just one like the rest of the roof and on other curtain changing effects, that section sweeps the wrong direction and then the rest of the garage and roof sweep the correct way.  It almost seems like that strand was connected backwards but it's right in the middle of a string that I cut and soldered pigtails on to make it easier to carry and install on the gutters so I know its connected correctly.  My question is if the way I have the sections numbered in xlights is causing my issue.  Again it goes receiver card output to the side of the porch and then I have power injection (+ and COM since they are two different PSU's) at the far left end of the garage (the section that is having issues).  In Xlights I have the side of the porch defined as one line with channels 23195-23314 and over the garage defined as 22685-23194.  Since the data input is at the side of the porch, should I have made it so that the numbers run in order (i.e porch 22685-22804 and garage 22805-23314)?  I just cant think what else would be causing that end section over the garage to act so odd and just didn't know if different strands needed to be ordered in sequential numbers if connected together on one output.  Thank you for any help.

Have you tried changing starting location.

Hi Keith,

Thank you for the quick reply!  I haven't tried to change the start point yet only because I actually had to do that on the porch peak because that entire peak was going the wrong direction since I changed the end I had planned to connect the data to.

This one is odd because it's not the entire garage and porch side going the wrong way, it's just maybe 25% of the part over the roof on the far left side.  The rest is totally normal except for that one section.  I've attached a couple photos of the xlights mapping and I have both set to start at the blue square.  The data is plugged into the side of the porch at the blue square and the power injection is at the left side of the garage at the green square.  Would it be possible the injection is causing the issue?  I have the + line cut half way and the com going all the way thru the strings but have both blue and red supplies hooked up at the injection point since different supplies. I'm just curious if I should go ahead and try renumbering the channels from the porch side blue dot in sequence with the garage but didn't know if that would have any affect on this behavior issue.

I assume you didn’t reverse things on the controller.

Thanks again for the quick response.  Everything thing was normal in the controllers but I did end up fixing the issue.  I went back in xlights and redefined the channels from the side to the garage so they went in order and also changed the universes in FPP and the f16 to reflect that the side porch is now the lower numbered string.  Then I rendered all of the sequences again and luckily its all working normal now.  Honestly I'm not sure if that fix makes any sense but since its working normal now, I guess I wont question it  lol.  Thanks again for your help and responses.
