xLights output limit?
« on: December 08, 2019, 10:55:34 AM »
Is there a limit to the number of controllers xLights can output to?

I was using "output to lights" with 4 ESPixelsticks (4 strings & 5 universes total) but if I add additional ESPs they are reporting no show data is being received.

Thanks.

I have seen shows with up to about 80 controllers ... and there is no actual limit in the code. Basically your limit is your network bandwidth which on a GB network is almost 2 million channels.

Your problem seems to be more likely a configuration error on your part ... I have heard of people running almost 30 pixel sticks ... of course I dont recommend that as it will always go to custard eventually as even if it works eventually some interference source will show up and your show will lag.

Make sure with ESPixel sticks you use multicast.

Thanks again.  When I change Outputs for the ESPSs in FPP to Multicast, I get no display.  I have also tried in xLights changing the Port in Setup Tab to Multicast for all the ESPSs, saving the sequence and re-uploading the sequence to FPP.  Still no output.  When everything is Unicast it plays from FPP, but it stutters.  I'm going to work on a dedicated show network.

When using multicast you have to ensure the data exits the machine via the correct network interface. In xLights/xShedule it is done via force local ip. In FPP there is an equivalent setting.
