DMX Moving Head 3D model questions
« on: May 25, 2020, 11:06:07 PM »
Hello, Questions about how to set up my 3D moving head. My current set up is 2D in xlights just as info. I have a couple cheap moving heads that I'm toying with (before I spend real money on higher quality units if I like the effects)

At any rate I have the spot attached to my F16 DMX port and have created a sequence with the model. I am able to control the light using the channel sliders and the movement of the spot with the sliders seem to be as expected but what I see on my house preview display or on my model  preview does not represent what my spot light is doing.  I'm not sure if I have the wrong setting in my set up or what the problem is.  When I move the slider for pan (channel 1) the actual spot light pans and the model pans.  When I adjust the tilt the actual spot tilts up and down but the model does not apear to move.  Fairly sure it is some error I have in the model settings but not sure what the proper setting should be.  What the proper setting for the pan deg of rot (I believe from my docs it should be 540) Pan Slew Limit ??  (currently set at 360) Ttlt Slew limit (currently set to 0)  Including shots of my setting and my documents from the spotlight for reference.  Thanks in advance for any guidance.

You messed up some of the parameters because they are no longer on the defaults.

First thing is you shouldn't use the 3D model unless you plan to use the 3D layout preview.  You should pick the DmxMovingHead model and then set the type to the 3D version which draws a 3D representation on the 2D layout.  You also need to put the Tilt parameters back to the defaults.  Deg of Rot is how many degrees does it move from 0 to max command.  You have it at 0 so it will never move.  The slew limit sets how fast it can spin.  You set that to 0 which means it can't spin at all.  Both of those are purely for xLights visual purposes and have no effect on the real hardware.

Thank you! I assumed incorrectly that I used 3D because it moved in all directions.  --  I know the kids are out of school but seem the school of hard knocks is in session for me.   I will reset and retry.
