HELP!
« on: March 27, 2020, 05:01:07 PM »
SHow was working perfectly at Xmas time... We just put all the lights back up today with a few "pick me up" songs for the craziness going on right now. I had upgraded to the new 2020 version when programming the new songs. Everything seemed ok w the setup when programming / preview / etc. But, for the life of me... i can't get anything to work live. Been trying all day, and I don't even fully understand what exactly has been changed w the controllers tab, other than it's now all in one giant list?

SOOOOOO Frustrating!

Anyone have ideas on where to start?

This is now the error message when trying to roll back. Why would u guys put out an update that breaks EVERYTHING without warning people about it during install? The only message i got was to make sure i saved both the controller setup and the layout page (which i did).

If you rolled back to an xx.2019 from an xx.20 I don't think you can roll back to xx.19. If I remember correctly it states before upgrading to xx.20. There are people in the xlights zoom you may be able to help you now, jump in and share your screen for help.

If you had been paying attention you might have seen that this would be a problem.  However, you should look to see if you have backup files dated from before you did the upgrade.  Use those files and you should be fine.

jnealand: I get the issue of going back to 2019 version, but what was the root cause of the issue with the 2020.XX version? I suspect its a setup/controller issue.

I've completely gone to the 2020 version, and especially like the new format in "controllers".  easy and straight forward.  I've added additional controllers and models.  easy peasy.

Last year I programed in Xlights (versions 2019) then move the sequences and vid/audio files to the FPP.  I've not talked to a controller this year (version2020.XX) or setup any lights for testing.  Maybe I should!

g8rfn2: What does "work live" mean? Actual running of the lights?  Can you send a png of the controller page and one of the controller configurations (left side of the controller page).  Lets see if we can figure out the 2020 issue.

Sounds like controllers and xlights settings are now different.

Because everything is backed up every time you start the program so there is very little risk of you ever losing anything during an upgrade.  The problem is people always thinking they need to go backwards.  We don't design the program to be able to run in older versions without issue.  The truth is we don't know what went wrong for you and it may have had nothing to do with the upgrade.  I've had trouble so many times when I go to get my show up and running so I know it can be a hundred reasons.

To be CRYSTAL clear... I was not complaining about the fact that the rollback didn't work. And yes, I was "paying attention." But, thanks for the oh-so helpful message, @jnealand. What i was complaining about is that I had a perfectly working setup at Christmas, upgraded (following all instructions), and it hosed my entire layout / settings.

To the rest of you... Thanks for trying to help. I was spending far more time trying to identify what happened than it would've taken to just re-do the entire setup. So, that's what I did.

For anyone else who has this happen... the GOOD news is that it takes 1/2 the time to set everything up compared to what it used to. Or, at least that was my experience.

Only issue that remains is that xSchedule is preventing my monitors from turning off in 2020.12 (i'm just talking about monitor power, not "sleep"). That didn't happen in my prior version either. Is that being addressed?

Thanks all!
