Exporting Show
« on: May 11, 2020, 11:48:46 AM »
I am gathering different shows from different years.  Each was done in xLights, and we had different setups each year.  The goal is to bring all the sequences into one setup and location.

Somewhere I have seen where you can "export" your sequence, then bring it back into another setup.  There was a chart of "what is on the old system" and corresponding "what is on the new system" that had to be filled out to tell the process where different props were in the new setup.

I've looked through all of xLights menus (2020.19), have tried several different "Rudolph Searches", and finally have browsed through the DIYC sites manually.  (Skimmed would probably been a better definition.)  Still have come up empty.

Can someone point me to directions on how to export and then import?

Thanks.
Al

Update (5/11/2020 @ 1405) -
Found the "package sequence" routine. So I now have the sequence, along with the old xlights_networks.xml and xlights_rgbeffects.xml as well as the media needed for the sequence all within a .zip file.

So far no luck in finding a routine for bringing this into the new setup. The search continues.

OK. Found what I need.
Keith's video from 3 years ago seems to be very relevant.

There is no export, there is only import.  The important part for you is to create a good mapping file for each year.  Once you have it done for the first sequence you can then import all other sequences from the same layout in minutes.  That is the same way that those of that have never been good sequencers do with the sequence clubs.  Build a good map file that you can then reuse for all subsequent sequences from the same vendor.

It is also the best way to bring a sequence from one year to another like you are doing.  Even though we think we have not changed something from year to year inevitably there always seem to be one little thing we forgot about.  Plus by mapping you have the opportunity to clean up you layout from year to year.  I always seem to find that I could have used better naming of props and mapping makes it much easier to do that and still bring things forward.

I found a real help in the tools menu.  "Tools -> package sequence".  This gathered everything I need, then I use the "Import -> import effects", along with mapping files.  It has been working great.

Since I have all the years we have been on xLights to do, with a dozen sequences per year, this is saving me a lot of time and headaches.
