DMX Fog Machine DI
« on: May 26, 2020, 08:36:52 PM »
So I was searching for a DMX controlled fog machine online and I found this well done video converting a old standard fog machine to DMX.

https://youtu.be/EmKoj6lJvY8

I don't run a wireless wifi network for my shows nor do I want to go the trouble of converting my other controllers or "adding" wifi at this point as my old school wired network works well for me.  It seems this Wemos device https://amzn.to/2qB1vZ6 is for wifi and I need to find a "wired" or XLR version that I could run from my falcon DMX port or my bridge.  Does such a thing exist? IS there a way to "hard wire" a device like this to the dmx output running to my dmx nodes, floods, etc

I have a few fog machines laying about and if I could convert them to dmx fairly cheap it would be a better deal for me because I have a few foggers however if I have end up with $50-100 in controllers etc I would be better of just finding a good dmx machine out of the gate.

Thoughts?

You can get dmx relay boards that will switch AC. I didn't find a 1 ch one with a quick search, but found heaps of 3 ch AC 110V-220V DMX relay boards - example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32815684377.html

Theoretically you could control 3 foggers (like the one in the video you linked) with one of those, no code needed.

Of course it would depend on the type of fogger you have and the manual remote they have.

Personally I don't like the idea of hacking high voltage AC, but we have to deal with 240V here in Aus which is a tad more deadly.  :D

PS. The tester he used in that video is now called da-tester and is available from here: https://www.da-share.com/software/da_tester/

I know just enough to be dangerous :0
