DMX moving head
« on: July 26, 2020, 01:30:54 PM »
When i drop dmx movement in for my moving head and click individually it works perfect. When I play the sequence instead of making a sweep, it goes from point a to point b in a full circle movement. I want it to pan right then pan back left to the same degree without a spin.

You need to post a sample sequence with at least one effect that doesn?t work

Its like we need a negative value in order to pan left in a ccw motion without doing a clockwise spin to get there.

So you've got them configured where the 0 position points backwards into the screen.  Is that the way they are positioned?  You can change Pan Orientation to make the layout match reality.  If the 0 position is really pointing forward then Pan Orientation would be 270.  And if the head moves the wrong direction when you move the slider versus reality then you need to make the Pan Deg of Rotation a negative value.

No, I have the tilt orientation set at 5 so they point dead ahead. I guess my question and/or problem is this.. Is there a way already in Xlights or can we add a way to get the head to pan to 150 without spinning to the right to get there? What Im trying to achieve is a quick maneuver to pan 155 to 25 without the head making a 360 degree turn to get to the 155 position. It takes a few seconds to make that maneuver, if it could turn left to get there its in an almost instance position. Any help or solution is greatly appreciated. If im missing something let me know.

No your heads are not pointed dead ahead they are pointing directly away from you like to the backyard.  Just drop a DMX effect and play with the Pan slider and you can see its pointed backwards.  All the heads I've seen have a zero home position and can only spin one direction from there usually like 540 degrees.  So if I needed it to move equally left and right I'd need to orient the head so it points forward when the command is 127 the halfway point.  There are a lot of folks like Tom BetGeorge using xLights for moving heads and being successful.  I'm not sure how they use it but they get it done.  I haven't had time to put them in my show.

The thing that didn't make sense in your descriptions here is you were saying the head operates differently depending on whether you play the sequence or click on the effect.  That is definitely something wrong with a render order and overlapping channels or something like that.  If you hit render all and play that is how a sequence should play.  If you click the effect and it does something different then there is a problem somewhere in the sequence or layout or model ordering.  You did not actually give me a sequence with any effects for me to look at that.
