Unable to save network definition file
« on: August 18, 2020, 09:16:16 PM »
We have a fellow on zoom with a surface pro 7 that is unable to save any changes to the layout or network. It has worked in the past pre .26 or so ..

He gets Unable to save RGB effects  when he makes changes.  And unable to save network definition file.
The surface is using OneDrive - we tried turning off sync, copying to another directory, using his C drive all with the exact same results.
We can edit the .xml in notepad and save no problem - just in xlights it doesnt want to work.
Logs show that it is unable to save the backup either - it does create the ONSTART backups however.

Tried uninstall, reinstall.
Tried run as administrator.
Checked file permissions.

User is Zach R. Any ideas? We were stumped.

I am the individual that was having the issue. Great help from all on the Zoom room tonight. If anything else is needed let me know what to provide.

What was the solution to this? I appear to be having the same problem and have determined that somehow the show directory is constantly getting set to read only, preventing anything from being saved.

Thanks

We ended up copying the 2 files then pasting them in the same directory. Then deleted the original files. Renamed the copies back to the original name.

We also noted that my files had all become "hidden" and I ended up having to select all of the files and "unhide" them.

I can't prove it directly, but this happened after a Windows update.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. After digging into this a little deeper, I found that Bitdefender was blocking write access for Xlights to my hard drive.
