Saving problem, maybe lol
« on: December 04, 2020, 09:28:54 AM »
Using the .51, i open a sequence to add or change something, i then hit save sequence, the color bar on bottom goes from 0 to 100 percent done, and then i go to close, and get the message something like this " You have unsaved changes, would you like to save" and of course i click yes to save changes, but what did i save before when i hit save? Now when i open that sequence it again states there is a newer version of sequence in or from autosave would you like to open that instead? So in realty my problem is when i hit save sequence (the blue floppy disc) what is it doing? it looks like its saving, but to where, because apparently not the the show folder i opened it from? Anyone else have this?

I believe when you hit save it only updates the xml/xsq file unless you have render on save and then it saves the fseq.  Models, networks, etc must be saved used the save buttons in the controllers and layout tabs.  I try to also make sure all saves are done before I exit and never ever  agree to use the autosaved file because if you just go in and look/modify something and do not want to keep it the autosave function may very well have kicked in and then you get loaded what you never intended to save in the first place.  It seems like just clicking on a model in layout to look at the parameters will set the autosave button when in fact you have not changed anything.  On the other have folks who don't learn to save themselves have found autosave to have been a big help.

Save will always save the xsq and fseq files. Render on save just forces the render to be performed to ensure the fseq is 100% complete and up to date ... which is really only important if you are about to use it in your show player.

Also note the controller and layout tabs have their own save buttons and some actions on one tab can impact other tabs requiring that to also be saved.

Jnealand,,

Agreed. i pretty much do same. i have before accidently saved and unwanted effect, or messed with something that your not sure if move things, so you exit without saving.

Keithsw1111,
Thanks for clearing that. I usally render before saving, so when it says auto save found newer, is it just that its a few seconds newer? So i really don't have to hit save changes? i get nervous that im going to lose all my work so i just click save changes just in case..lol If i'm just messing around i click don't save.

Thank You both for taking your time and answering this. Much appreciated. Keith maybe one day you can give me a quick run down of what my video playing options are with xlights. I have a Novastar Synchronous setup. I read somewhere that you are the man in that department, lol Right now my biggest problem is finding and recording videos to play on the screen out there, so most of the time right now, its blank. The weather here on Long Island has been brutally wet and very windy lately, so my time has been in saving things, a few days ago the wind and rain knocked out my neutral power wire, and half my house blew/smoked. My first thing was changing all the controls on boiler and lighting, all my zwave switches and stats, etc. now i sit as i write this in another high winds storm, Takes the joy out of doing this, Almost..lol

Auto save writes the xsq to a xbkp if something has changed every 3 mins by default. On load xlights checks the two file time stamps and flags of the xbkp looks newer. If xlights says something needs saving then odds are it does.
