xlights Channel Maximum Related Questions
« on: April 26, 2021, 03:57:56 PM »
Thank you to whoever wrote FPP Connect !!!

1. Is there any way a Falcon F16V3 or F4V3 can be set to work with FPP Connect?  They have a "Remote Mode" but I can't seem to find any documentation on it.

2. What is the channel limitation for xlights and xscheduler and the FPPDs?

The FPPD seems to have a limitation of 1,048,576 channels as a Start Channel for E1.31 Pixel Control.  I have set all my pixel control in the 100-80,000 range and it works fine.

3. The problem is with my VirtualMatrix Display setup.

I am using 5 FPPD Raspberry Pi 4's in the "Player (Remote)" mode.  They each are set up as a VirtualMatrix of 480x270 which upconverts to 1920x1080 or 1080P. Unfortunately, that is 388,800 x 5 OR 1,944,000 total channels and I'd really like to go to 960x540 for better graphics.

At the current 480x270 configuration I am getting intermittent operation so I figured it might be an xlights, xschedule or FPPD channel max problem.

Thanks for the help,

Doug

One thing you have to come to realize is that it is a Virtual *Matrix* not a Virtual HD TV. Perhaps in some far off future release they may come out with a VirtualHDTv setting.

I have a horizontal video wall that I am working on.

The good news is that it seems to work at 480x270 with the raspberry Pi's.  I have (4) 43" displays that upconvert to 1080p.

The problem I have found is that when I add a 2nd layer to my Matrix 5, all the monitors and E1.31 lights start to flash on playback.

This seems to suggest that somewhere around channel 1,640,000 there is a channel boundary that I  have reached.

I'm hoping to find out what that memory boundary is.

All the best,

Doug

FPP's channel max is 8M channels.   The spin button on the e1.31 start channel has an improper max set (just fixed on master), but you can type in higher channel numbers and they would work.
