Piano effect?
« on: May 08, 2021, 11:14:00 AM »
Hey All...

I was looking to add the piano effect but I can't get Audacity to load the Queen Mary Vamp library (Windows 10 machine)....so I can't get to polyphonic transcription notes source.....

I know this is probably more of an Audacity issue but it impacts the use of the piano effect....I've posted on the Audacity forum asking for some help but so far no luck.  So I thought I'd see if anyone else is having issues or if there's a work around.

There are 3 other options when you try to import notes into XL:

1.  Music XML file....  I have no clue what that is.

2.  MIDI file....how does one create a MIDI file from an mp3?

3.  Audacity Timing file...  I don't see any reference in Audacity or the manual that is called a "Timing file".

Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction on how to provide notes for the piano effect to read/use?  I sure would appreciate it...

Okay....Duh on me....

I finally figured out that I should try Keith's addition of some time back....and loaded the QM Vamp directly into XL.....did the polyphonic transcription.....then I assigned it to the piano effect and hit play.....It didn't do anything....keys don't play.  I tried several ranges of channels....nothing.....

Guess I'm not holding my mouth right again.....So....what's the 'trick' that I'm missing?

Attached is a document I wrote back in 2017 so some of it's a bit old now but mostly still valid. :)
No need to use Audacity, jump straight to the Alternate Method using the Polyphonic Transcription method.

Seeing as you've already done that, go to page 3 and setup the piano effect as described. One of the tricks is to ensure you have at least 4 colours selected as shown in the doc.
I know just enough to be dangerous :0

Thanks Ozaz.....that's exactly what I needed!  ;D

I was missing the part about "select: Notes Source-- Polyphonic Transcription"...

I had tried creating a timing tract as a polyphonic transcription when I added the timing track instead of using the import notes and selecting the polyphonic transcription dropdown....DUH on me.... ::)

Also it never occurred to me that I needed at least 4 colours......Double DUH on me......    :-\

Thanks for responding and helping me with the 'tricks'....It's easy once you know what you're trying to do!  ;)
