file location for .png files
« on: August 08, 2021, 09:51:37 AM »
I have had to rebuild a sequence due to a drive issue. I now have one sequence that will not play correctly unless I put all of the *.png files into the show directory. Other sequences work fine. What I really need is some "school housen' " regarding where in the structure these files need to be to run correctly. Is there a file that I can edit that will tell the sequence where it should be looking for these files??
Any help greatly appreciated.

.png are images .. so likely in the images. If it is under the show folder then xlights is pretty good at finding it. You can however edit the various picture effects and be sure they point to the desired location.

Thanks for the reply. In this case, I think I need to know how to edit the file that points to their location. This is a single situation in my sequences. I can find the .png files for some of my sequences , but not all of them. However, this one sequence is the only one that fails to work unless they are in the show directory which really clutters things up since their 250 of them. Can you enlighten me as to direct that sequence to look in the right place? I have them in two locations now. The show directory as well as a sub folder called (IMAGES).
Regards
Kent

Open the sequence in a text editor and find one of the images to see how its listed.  Might be able to do an easy find/replace to fix it.

I searched as you suggested but was unable to find any reference to a *.png in any location except the show folder where I have all of them for this one odd sequence. The only way that sequence will run correctly is if the .png files are in the show directory. So, while I think I already tried this, I am going to delete all references to that sequence and try building it again. The only hesitation I have for doing that is I am not sure what might show up from some sort of back up.
Thanks to all for the suggestions

So you could have changed those paths that you found to whatever you want.

I have now found out that during the process these image files become unnecessary. I think it has something to do with the sequence of rendering and saving. But right now I have the subject sequence running correctly and the folder where I put the image files has been removed completely from the show folder. Just another of the many facets of this software that I have no clue about let alone find the answer.

Yeah no. While image files may look like they are not required if you are using render cache deleting them would be an exceptionally bad idea.

My advice is always keep a sequences assets in a subfolder dedicated to that sequence.  People started wanting to keep their images in a common folder and it just creates more problems just to save a bit of disk space which is cheap these days.
