FPP lags and/or missing elements?
« on: November 01, 2021, 10:38:36 AM »
After an epic Halloween night I noticed a couple things particularly in faster paced sequences that there are elements that either have lagged in lighting or didnt light at all.
I did recheck the sequences that i hadnt errored in xlights re/rendered and uploaded without any changes to the final output.
I am running FPP on a Pi 3B+(fully updated)  to a falcon F16V3 outputing to approx 1000 lights.
Do i need a faster processor?  Is there some "maintenance" that needs to be done?
I have rebooted the Pi prior to any show start as well.
Any thoughts on this?  Christmas is right around the corner!
Thanks in advance!

Define "faster paced" by telling us the timing rate set for the sequence.

Are you asking in the setup for the fps or would you be asking me the duration of the element that is supposed to show?
I just wanted to say Gilrock as I've been combing through a lot of posts on this forum (slow days at work...lol) and find that the amount of help you give out is nothing short of impressive.  I truely appreciate all the hard work that you and others do daily to help us noobs with more times than not dumb questions.
Whatever your reply is here Ill check out later today.....at work combing through the forums...lol
Thanks again!

Under File -> Sequence Settings there should be a field that shows the timing.  That timing defines the shortest possible effect you can execute in that sequence.  I forget if its in frames per second or ms.  But lets say its 50ms which is 20 frames per second.  That would mean you can't have any effects quicker than 50ms.  Last I remember an FPP didn't go faster than 25ms (40 FPS) but I noticed some of Tom BetGeorge's sequence had timings of 15ms which is 66 FPS.  Maybe the FPP's can transmit that fast now.  So anyways I'm curious what rate you were trying to transmit at.

So my sequence timing is 25ms.
I looked up some of the specific effect timings that were not showing up and they averaged about 520ms.
And to clarify, sometimes the effect showed up and the next effect did not, sometimes the effect did not show up at all, and sometimes the effect showed up late.

Well I'm not sure a Pi 3B+ should be plenty good to run a show.  For years I was still running my show with an early Pi from 2014 and that was driving 50,000 channels.  You might need to find the FPP forum and start looking at logs and see what they suggest to track it down.
