Deleting older sequences
« on: November 21, 2021, 09:36:44 AM »
Hello all
I am new at xlights and I have a question.
When I make a sequence and later on I change it up A bit. I always "save as" then rename it the same but with a number behind it so I know this is my most updated sequence. I know I probably shouldn't do it like that but I do.
My question to you guy and girls is Now that I have numerous sequences of many different sequences. Can I delete the previous one's without loosing parts or all of my finished sequences?

Yes, as far as xlights knows, they are a completely different item.

No harm in doing an F10 to back them up .. verify they are in backup folder and go for it.. While you are at it, go into File->Preferences and set an expiry date for your backups to say 90 days.

I do the same thing as sometimes I am trying a different effect/preset or some other setting and am not sure if I will like the new one or want to go back to the old one.  I keep all the old xml or xsq files and delete all fseq files with the old numbers.  fseq files can be quite large while xml/xsq files are usually pretty small.  Also xml/xsq files are recipes and fseq files are the cooked product and can be recreated at any time by opening the xml/xsq and rerendering.
