combined matrix - faces
« on: December 11, 2021, 08:03:02 AM »
I have two matrix diplays phyiscally stack on top one another and logically create a large matrix with the two of them combined.

I can add faces to each matrix individually, but I am not finding a way to add faces to the large combined matrix.

Any suggestions?

It will need to be defined as if its one matrix in xLights.  The only issue is if you want to use the controller auto-configuration stuff.  In that case you should still be able to get it to work by defining the single matrix as what we call a shadow model.  It overlays the channels but does not have controller definitions.  If the channel arrangement does not fit the build in matrix model you would need to create a custom model.  That can be painful for a large matrix and using Excel to create then copy/paste the node numbers would be easiest.

Or....if you put the 2 models into a group does it let you define the faces for the group model?

If the 2 matrixes are next to each other channel wise you could create a shadow model (a 3rd matrix where the start channel is hard coded to be the start of the top matrix start channel).
If they are not .. a neat workaround might be to place your face effect on one matrix, temporarily, render it, right click on the model and "export" the effect to an .avi file. Now you have a vid of the face effect that you can put on your group of matrices.

RE: group:

I do have a "large matrix" group made from the two smaller matrices in the layout.  The group does support face configurations like a matrix model does.

RE: 3rd matrix, my two matrices are each run by a separate ESPixelStick  I don't see how to set the start channels specifically in the controller in xlights (I set the start universes and the separation between the last channel on the first matrix uninverse and the first universe of the second martix is not contiguous

I am going to try to change the universe size on the controller to match perfectly and see if that works (ie change from the usual 510 to 432....
