Terrain modifications
« on: April 07, 2022, 08:33:56 AM »
During the Florida Mega Mini, Gil pulled a rabbit out of the hat and showed the 3D Object, "Terrian" during his presentation on xLights 3D.  I had no idea that this existed.  Perfect for my display as I have a confluence of three hills coming together in a valley.  Having the grid in this shape appears to be just the ticket to making the jump to 3D, at least for me.

I'm currently looking for anything I can in the way of tutorials on using this.  Unfortunately the only instructional I find has no audio and is really short.  I know that somewhere out there in DIYC land is a tutorial on how to use this. Does anyone have a link to it?

Also, is there a way to pull on one point (up or down) and have all the adjoining points adjust accordingly?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Yeah I can't remember if I did a video or not.  Basically the first thing you need to decide is what resolution you want the grid in the Terrain to be because its not very friendly to size changes after you get started.  You can translate, scale, and rotate the object no problem but if you need more points then it messes up the existing elevation changes since I haven't designed a way to interpolate points from an old size to a new size.

You click the Edit checkbox when you want to make elevation changes to the points.  You can move more than one point up and down at a time by changing the brush size.  Currently its only going to move the block of points up together its not going to try to smooth the edges.  Some work probably could be done in that area to make it better but I haven't heard anyone say they had even used the object.

Thanks Gil.  I'll look into "brush size".

BTW - Thank you for the landscape stuff.  It will, without a doubt, make life a lot easier as I try to fit my props onto the valley and hills that I'm given to display on. Also, it was great to see you again at FMM.
