Pixel based Mini-trees - any good effects?
« on: February 10, 2015, 06:32:27 PM »
Looking at replacing my simple 2-color mini-trees with Pixel based versions. Looking at a Coroplast version that would be 10 pixels tall with 6 columns of pixels in a 180 degree tree.

So, I made the model in Nutcracker but am so far unimpressed with the results in the preview.

Anybody have a similar mini-tree and found some good combinations?

I have been thinking of this type of project as well.  I have 16 three color minis using LEDs.  I've been thinking about trying the coro trees that James78018 is prepping on DIYC and available thru his store at  http://boscoyostudio.com/products/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=36

Whatever answer are posted will interest me.

Will be interested in watching this one also.  I am adding a second pixel megatree in 2015 and I have already decided I am converting all my mini trees to RGBs in 2016.  I want to be able to do whole house models with EVERYTHING in my display!!

Spirals, Fire, Butterfly, Curtain, Chase, are all good to start with.    You must adjust the effects to get them just right.

Combine Curtain with a fade and several colors. Make your own new effect.
Use layers (Effect1, Effect2)

There are hundreds of great effects you can create with the built in base effects.
With that being said, you can create thousands of blah effects too with random.

Use the Arches model for each leg of your tree. See what new effects you can get by using Group all Arches.

There's more there than you think!!!

I am definitely looking at 10 individual models but also an "11th" model that has all 10 of them for curtain and chase effects

Been trying to think of the same sorts of concepts as well.  Derek's video was interesting on the mini trees, but Zwiller brought up an interesting point that at that size pixels are unnecessary distraction and they should just be dumb trees.

I'm using LSP so will have a bazzillion layers to think out side the box with as well, top down curtains, color sliders in LSP, sparkle, I wonder if defining the three front rows as a custom model (v4) or a matric (lsp) could provide some interesting items like text across the row of them, sine waves stuff like that might be pretty interesting.

Was thinking of a dozen of james mini trees, 6 of the medium and 2 of the large.

I don't think they'd be any more of a "distraction" than having a series of arches that go across a yard. The medium trees (10 pixels high) could actually be used as a very wide matrix, in my case 60 by 10, to move things across.

I agree I don't think its a distraction if you do it with decent effects.  I'm adding some this year.  Played around with a couple sizes and i think they turned out fine, I tweaked them some after the video.  Few random effects on each and don't mind the random flickering....ssc v2 issue thats now fixed with a v3 mod.

4ft - 75 pixels - 5 x 15
3ft - 50 pixels - 5 x 10

Twooly, some neat random effects in there, particularly like some of the vertical block effects.
