Icon request
« on: April 11, 2015, 08:18:03 AM »
OK be it all a trivial request could we please go back to the nutcracker desktop icon from a couple releases ago?

I really liked that better than the current one with the big "4" on it.

I know like I said trivial.  :D

On another note... great work guys with the software!

I know I am not alone on this one but I can't wait to get on the forum each
day to see if there is a new release so I can download it and check it out.

You guys are going to make this light season something special for a lot of people. Not only us the users
but for the people that come to enjoy out shows during the holidays.

Thanks Sean and the fantastic team!

Yeah I think the old one looks nicer but I wasn't involved in the icon drawing.  It reminds me of iTunes.  I'm perfectly happy with the iTunes icon and my eyes get used to the way it looks when I goto find it and then Apple has to keep changing the darn color of it every new major release.

I don't know what's going on with these icons cause on my desktop it doesn't look good and I keep feeling like others are seeing something different than what I'm seeing.  I create a shortcut to the .exe and the icon I get doesn't match the one I see in our source files.  I screen captured it.  The right is the file we have that I thought should be what I see but the top left is what I have showing up for the shortcut.  It has white edges and doesn't look good.  The bottom left is the old one.

Thanks Gil!

I went back and looked and the icon I liked was in the .13 release.

So here's a question for you. Can I go back and reinstall the .13 release and save the icon and
then reinstall the .18 release I am currently using without any issues?

I really don't know.  You can change the icon for shortcuts and it looks like mine is stuck on an older version so I think the answer is yes for shortcuts.

Here is the old icon.  I just copied it from an xl3 folder.  For windows with a shortcut on the desktop, you just right click on the shortcut select properties and at the bottom of the screen is a change icon button.  Then browse to wherever you saved the icon.  The problem you will get is that it will be changed back to the xl4 icon with every new release and so you will have to keep changing the icon.  Therefore you might want to save it somewhere other than the xlights program folder.

I kept the old icon on my desk top, every time I download a new version once it is complete I get rid of all the new icons and open up the old one, low and behold it has worked every time.

Thanks Guys for all the help!

I solved my issue after Jim's post gave me an idea.

I installed .13 version on my old computer and copied the nutcracker icon to a thumb drive then
went back to my show computer and made a xlights icon folder and copied it to there so it will
always be there and then I can change the icon like Don.

Sometimes its the little things that bug me.   :o

I was experimenting with changing the lightbulb to a nutcracker in ver 13.

i run ver 3.6 and ver 4 at the same time doing tests.
That is why there is a 4 on the lightbulb. As i worked on making a 256x256 icon so it works on the desktop better, i brought in a hi res lightbulb.

Ill post all of these in a future post and let people pick which one they like.
I will get rid of the 4 as it is prob no longer needed.

I was thinking the nutcracker icon might be better as an icon for xlights since it has a christmas theme and we lost the NUTCRACKER tab and replaced it with SEQUENCER.

Maybe i will just install a couple of icons and make it part of the install process, you pick the icon you like.

I was playing a bit with an upscaled version of the xLights icon to 64x64.   Not sure if this looks better or not.
