What files to copy over to new directory?
« on: June 13, 2015, 03:28:33 PM »
My drive folder is a mess. I want to start a new folder and bring across the sequences as I convert then from xL3 etc.
What files do I need to copy to the new directory to get my channel count, models and the layout?
I just can't seem to get the right combination.

Hi,
Rather than get this wrong...
Do a backup from the xl backup function , look at the files it has created ie the xlights ones.
Copy those
Then the Xmls that you are working on or have worked on in xl4
The MP3 files.
The house image
The timing files.

You could copy the fseq or just save again.

I recently did this for the same reason and I did one song at time.
I kept the LSP input files and LOR face inputs , pgo  etc in an "input" directory with sub directories per song.

When I start a new year I just make a new folder and copy across just the files that are named xlights........xml.  There will be 3 or 4 of them.  That gives you all the models, your network setup, and your keybindings.  Then just copy the music files you want.  the way I do it is to have one folder named xlights and then underneath that folder I have many other folders that I just switch to as needed using the setup tab.  I have Halloween 2014, Christmas 2014, Christmas 2015, Halloween per kulp, tests per Jon Back, etc.  When someone shares a sequence and their setup info, you put it into a new folder, switch to that folder and look at the shared stuff using their models and preview.  If you like the sequence you copy just the xml file into your own folder, switch back to it via the setup tab and then open the xml file going thru the model matchup/skip questions and voila you have a sequence you can now see on your own display and edit to your liking.
